Default Disc Burner: encode error on 4x3 BD export

I have a 4:3 feature film on timeline (project settings 25p, 1440 x 1080 = 4:3) and I was trying to export a BD!
If I select 1440x1080 50i format, the encode tries to start but an error message appears "Encoding failed".
If I select 1920x1080 50i format, the encode process runs but the result is 1920x1080 AR 4:3!!!
I was expecting a pillarbox FullHD result!
Soft- and hardware player squeezes the window because there is no such format specified in BD specification!!!

Can someone confirm this?

Andreas

I assume you are using Edius 9.+ . My experience with the Edius burner in 9 is that it is very quirky. But since I installed Edius with anti-virus running I may have some missing components, just don't know. I could not get most of the graphic tools in it to work (FX aspects of text formatting other than text with no shadow FX, etc.)

Of course make sure the correct aspect ratio was selected within burner. When I do 4x3 now I save separate version of the project with 4x3 project settings for burning purposes. It's easy enough to export and use an outboard disc burner software but I too had some burner problems within Edius 9 as have others on the forum. But there are quite a few things that can go wrong in the burn process but this sounds like a formatting or settings issue to me.

Yes, it's Edius 9!
The Discburner has always been a bit quirky.
I guess the phenomenn does not depend on the version, the export of 4x3 timelines to BD wont happen very often.
Antivirus is not an issue. I can easily export FullHD timeline to FullHD disc.

the EDIUS disk burner only supports 16:9 when size is 1440x1080

why not place your 1440x1080 footage in a 1920 timeline and use layouter to make it appear 4:3 and then use disk burner and you will get your correct looking 4:3 Blu-ray (with pillars)

Thanks Anton,

I was expecting positioning issues when timeline format gets changed: 4:3 -> 16:9.
I have some graphics and subtitles on timeline.

I also think that the Diskburner could easily make the neccessary changes to fullfill the specification.

I have a feeling that disk burner is not receiving any non urgent updates as can be seen by the 3 year old DVD template download, but you can always do the wishlist request

I follow your opinion Anton. DVD/BD seems "obsolete" in the mind of many people. It will decrease choice as support choosen ... before coming back in a few years such as been the story of vinil LP wich is again propose on the market.

Hoping that the wislist will react on Andreas demand...
