P45 is considered by Intel a "mainstream" chipset while X48 is considered a "performance" chipset...

However I'm not sure if these boards are compatible with DVStorm...

I am about to build an upgrade around this chipset, but with an NX board.

I will be posting my experience when it is built.

Though my research, the X48 chipset is the same as the p45, the X deals with crossfire (dual ATI video cards) and not with performance.

Actually, folks seem to think the P35, P45, & X48 offer pretty much similar performance.

I have to build a new system as my Shuttle X for 5 years has just blown it's sound chip.

Over the past 2 years I bought an NX new from somebody that wanted to sell it as he doesn't use it, I was just about to order a new mobo and quad cpu when I found out that the NX I have is a PCI 64 bit board, and it seems that only server boards have the extended PCI slot.

Anyone have clue as to what mobo I can use, I bought this up on this thread as it is akin to the question asked in the 1st place.

It is not "performance piece" but has amazing gear:

10x SATA, 2x IDE, 12x USB, 4x LAN !!!!!

I dont know other moterboard which can offer that.

I wonder if I can feel any difference in editing in compare to X48-DQ6 ?

In what kind is X48 better ?

Default EP45-DS4 or EP45 DS4P or X48-DQ6

I need to upgrade my old PC to new technology.....

The following are in the Canopus Hardware compatiblity list:
  • EP45-DS4
  • X48-DQ6

The X48-DQ6 from what I understand is an older chipset than the EP45-DS4.
As Aristotelis stated, the X48-DQ6 is a performance chipset that is more expensive.
Since I'm on a budget, I suppose I have to get the EP45-DS4. However, EP45-DS4 is not available from where I am at and only EP45-DS4P is available.

Is the EP45-DS4P a good replacement even though it is the not in the compatiblity list? (Well technically, I went to the Gigabyte site and found little difference, if any at all)

I'm using Premiere 6.5 on Winx XP Pro. Not using Edius.
I intend to use a Quad Core, 4GB RAM and upgrade from my current Dual AMD Motherboard...

Any help appreciated. If you can point me to people who were successful with using boards not on the compatiblity list, it would be most helpful.

What about ASUS' P5Q series of boards?

The X48DQ6 is the newer one, the EP45DQ6 is the older one with the 45 Intel chipset, the X48 comes with the 48 intel chipset, go the X48 DQ6 you won't look back, this is what one of my systems use and are a great MB.
