Default Old Server - HP ProLiant ML350 G4p

I was given this old server, with 2 x 3.4 Xeons, 8 Gb RAM, and 3x 160GB SCSI drives @ 10K rpm. It has 3 PCI-X slots, a PCIe-x4 and a PCIe-x8 slot.

Although not supported, it could probably run Win7Pro 64-bit.

It is very clean and boots up.

Would it be worth tinkering with and loading Edius, or should I just buy something smaller and newer?

I'm sure it would run edius fine but probably better suited to turning it into a network connected encode and disc author station, or if you up the HD raid storage capacity a really good media server and capture station...

Steven,

Thanks! I might just tinker with it.

It has two SATA connectors on the motherboard for additional storage, and 320GB SCSI 10K drives are cheap nowadays.

The only drawback is the power supply and fans are pretty noisy, and probably drain as much energy as a refrigerator!

The server case is really nice and tool-less. Very elegant design.

I'm thinking that the Socket 604 Xeons are just too antiquated to make a go of it, though.

You talked me off the bridge!

I will donate it to Goodwill or some other organization.
