Just after my big speach about how EDIUS never crashes it crashed of course! It was when I was jog-shuttling in the source window by rotating holding the right mouse button. I had just put on the latest storm drivers before the show so I don't know if that caused it.

Have you ever tried Joyoshare Media Cutter? I used this software, it's a good MPEG cutter and joiner that will help you cut and merge MPEG video files without re-encoding. You can have a try.

Cuttermaran can do the job free and without a loss even for audio (AC3, MP2 together with MPEG, all must be elementary streams).

TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 5

or

Cyberlink PowerDirector (smart render feature is not enabled in the trial version)

However, not all file containers/types of streams are supported, need to check before purchasing.

In particular, Cyberlink PowerDirector seemed promising but did not work for the necessary MP4 file type.

Similar discussion on MP4 here https://forum.grassvalley.com/forum/...t=smart+render
