Thanks Jerry. That fixed it even without a reboot. Welcome to the modern era where things get changed that you do not even know to check...

this should be made a sticky because it will cause the same issue for all Win10 users

I assume it worked before this update?

I updated to 1803 and my setting was on.

Not all people have an issue with this.

That is correct. It will depend on how the update/upgrade is installed and how much attention is paid to the questions asked during setup.

From what I remember, there is a question that asks if you want the microphone to be active with your apps. Choosing no, now turns the microphone off on everything. Choosing yes, well, you won't notice any difference.

I had to change this setting to get my microphone working with Skype but have not had a problem with EDIUS. I was only yesterday doing a voice over recording on a machine which had just been updated to the latest Windows 10 and I had not fiddling with this setting and it worked.

I think Skype being turned off might be a default install setting. The microphone was on, but Skype-and others-are turned off.

I think the designation of what this setting controlled was changed. I have always had this setting disabled because I do not use any type of mic for what Microsoft refers to as apps. I guess installed programs like Edius are not under this same umbrella. What bugs me is that Edius does not appear in the list of programs you can turn on or off. So it truly is hidden.

Yes, this was changed in 1803. It was also listed as being changed in the long lead up to it's release. The reason was to give flexibility based on the app and microphone used.
I have to ask, did you read any of the release information prior to installing the update?

No. The update showed up one morning and said "lets get started" so I updated. I admit I do not hold much interest in reading up on Windows 10 updates as they seems to happen quite often. As Noa pointed out in his thread, installing these things is inevitable, so one gets beat down to just hit OK and move on.

I know this is not good computer stewardship but how many things can we keep track of?
