Default Split Screen challenge

Hello, I want to make a split screen with 3 or 4 video channels as per layouts attached below. I think it involves a combination of Mask(s) and Layouters, but I don't know where / how to start.

(A further challenge could be to make this a "rolling" layout, i.e. slowly moving from right to left, but for now I'd like to settle for a static)

Can someone please give me a push in the right direction? Many thanks.

If you just want the windows to scroll over the same image, yes a mask would do. Inserting images or videos within the parallelogram will be difficult within Edius. Unless, the parallelogram and image are created outside of Edius and then animated with layouter.
Edius doesn't have motion tracking yet, and this will be the major hurdle in matching frame and insert. It could probably be done within Edius, but only after quite a bit of work.
You can do this within Boris Red or Vistitle. It took me less than 15 minutes to create this video in Vistitle:
Parallelogram test.mp4

Both Boris Red and Vistitle plugin to Edius 7 and Edius 8.
What you're wanting to do is more compositing than editing.

Hi
I am not sure I understand you correctly.
Is this what you want to do? challenge.mp4

If it is, then it is 100% doable in EDIUS.
There are two ways (I could think of) how to do it:
  1. Using external masks and multiplying the original image with it while animating the mask.
  2. Using Mask filter and animating it

If using the external mask method, you need to create the B&W mask outside of EDIUS.
Here is a sample project with both methods.
Study it, see if you can figure it out.

Just unzip it, open the project. Path to all images will be broken, so you will need to re-link the images.

Good luck
Rob

Thank you so much Rob, that challenge.mp4 is EXACTLY what I had in mind. Great to show me how you did it. Very useful study material.
