Default Primary Color Correction Tutorials

I've been using the Primary Color Correction more lately. I've just watched Matt Scott's YouTube tutorial but can't find too much info on the best way to use the Lift, Gamma and Gain controls. I've been using the 3 Way Color Corrector mostly up to now and the Primary Color Correction tool seems very different to it.
