Have you used this drive for a long time? Based on the amount of data, you're gonna need a bigger SSD.
I'm sure alot of that is bloat. Do you downoad to the C drive or do you actually have 390gb of programs?

Why are there two threads?
Anton, he says he has 390gb worth of data on the 500gb drive. That info is in the other thread.

that still does not guarantee that you will be able to shrink the disk to 250GB or less in order to use the Win7 image tool, if that is possible, then you can create the new SSD in 10min and you will not need to install anything and all software will remain activated

let me know if you are unsure how to shrink a drive in Win7 disk management

you can always use Acronics etc to clone the drive image

I use Acronis and it will re-apportion only the actual space used on the source drive onto the new drive. I have cloned from 320gb, and 500gb source drives onto 120gb and 256gb SSD's using Acronis without issue. You just have to pick the correct size SSD based on your current drive's use percentage.

Your easiest way probably is to clone he drive.

Also, I am merging the 2 threads on this.

I see the shrink volume reference under disc management. i assume once you do this, you cant go back. was going to see how much its down to. havent bought the ssd yet. probably going to buy the samsung 840 pro, based on the recommendations on the site.
