Default Cannot Export H.264 .mp4 1280x720 29.97p

Problem: Edius will not export to H.264 .mp4 1280x720 29.97p. Error message: 'Could not use the selected format. Please confirm setting.'

Version: 5.51

Source material: 1920x1080 29.97p AVCHD

Project Settings: 1920x1080 29.97p

Details:
I'm exporting for iPad. This export setting (1280x720 29.97p .mp4) is the best resolution/frame rate/format the device can play.

I have tried
-- Every combination of settings in the export dialog box -- no change.
-- Changing the project setting to 1280x720 29.97p -- no change.
-- Different source material like .MXF -- no change.
-- Different export frame rate including 23.98p and 59.94p -- all others work OK.

It simply appears that this particular setting will not export regardless of what I try.

Anyone run into this problem? Suggestions?

Make sure that Enable conversion is checked and then click on the arrow "Advanced" and then change your video formate to 1280X720 59.94P and it will work.

I thought that was implied in my post. I am indeed going into 'Advanced' and 'Enable Conversion' when converting the 1920x1080 source material to 1280x720. Regardless of the settings I always get the error.

Sorry, didn't see that you were using 30P I have always convert to 1280X720 60P for blu-ray disc and it always work, I think because 1280X720 30P is not within Blu-ray spec and so Edius gives you that error message, can that ipad play 1280X720 60P? if so do that and it should output.

The iPad can play up to 1280x720 30p, which is why I'm choosing that setting.

So I'm not coding for Blu Ray, just creating a .mp4 file to play on the iPad.

Have you tried the H.264 1280x720 29.97p preset? Does it work for you?

hmmm. I got the same thing as you did with that project preset. However when I changed the project preset to 1280x720 59.94p the export to that worked.

So it appears repeatable. Maybe we've uncovered a bug?

Thanks for checking.

I will check but I assume this is not a bug but probably the way it was designed. I am guessing that it is following the same rules as it would if it was burning a BD. I will let you know when I hear back from Japan.

I think Edius assumed that you want to make blu-ray and so it gives you that error messge because that is not blu-ray spec.
What you can do is export Quicktime instead and choose H.264 as a codec and it will work at your 30 frame rate.
