Default Lost autosave/back up project file

OK - help needed! I've just finished a long multicamera project that I've spent a few days on, and zoomed out to see that half of the timeline is empty. I think somewhere along the way i've marked an IN and OUT and pressed delete, but becuase my multicamera is obviously always in the current work area I havn't noticed.
I've looked in the AutoSave and Back up which is the last 10 saves and only takes me back to 10pm last night, and it's still not in the earliest project.
My question is - would the older files still exist on my PC if nothing has been written to the drive since? Luckily the project files autosave/back up is date and time stamped so it should be easy to find these - but how!? Any good software to recommend?
Am I likely to find these easily as I have a deadline, or should I just spend the 10 hours doing it all again? Eeeek!

Default Update

Sadly - after finding some recovery software, I see lots and lots of old files which all say they are recoverable, and the filenames are all correct! Amazing! However, after recovery (with the software saying that they are all recoverable with no clusters overwritten) edius says it cannot open the project file, the data is invalid (0x8007000d).
Is there any way at all of getting this back!? any experts out there!? Anyone who could possibly edit the project files code to make them readable!?!

Point to a different disk for the Backup in the future. And make sure you set to Autosave every 3 min and more than 20 files for the Backup.

Are the files back in the same directory on the same drive. I think to work they need the identical drive letter and directory name/structure as before.
