Maybe its like my GH5's that have about a 7 frame delay in audio being recorded.

Ron, playback from the Edius timeline is fine.

Its only the rendered clips in 4K.

Hi John Ok thanks for letting me know about the 705 update.

Yeah, not much going on there with that update. 1.0.2.1 https://www.canon.com.au/support/sim...FC49A&ctype=fa

Thanks, Jerry I have the codec, it's users I'm thinking about. Why the heck don't they just provide the codec in the OS.

hi all, after going around in circles for some time another forum member has kindly guided me here from my own post also enquiring about the H.265 'issue'

I have updated my signature as suggested and hope that it means more to you than it does to me.

Can I please ask if there are any updates in term sof actual solutions for the problem, ie rather than assumptions (albeit undoubtedly more logical / valid / knowledgeable than my own) has anyone actually got H.265 from a Canon XF705 to run without issue?

I have seen much contradictory information on the web but believe that my lowly 6700 should do the job, and now need a clue as to whether the main board, the GPU, the CPU or even the RAM might be the most likely issue. I really have even less idea than this suggests.

Basically, it comes down to processor and overall system 'grunt.'

What you need to do is prepare a 1 or 2 minute sample file that users can download to test on their respective systems.
Two files would be better. An 8 bit and a 10 bit file, both at the highest frame rate that you will ever use. For you, I would use a 3840x2160 50p base file.

Get someone with an overclocked 9900k and if Barry C is willing to test your XF-705 H.265 files on his Threadripper 3960X, these two tests alone would give you the much needed information.

The turning point of the Intel decode within Edius came with the Intel 7700K.
This is the same Intel GPU in the 9900k. This won't change until the 11th Gen Tiger Lake chips and the Xe GPU.

Finding out if the Threadripper 3960X can play the file you make would be of interest to many on the forum. Barry's system has played many layers of H.265 in other tests.

The XF-705 files have shown to be an issue with other NLE's as well.
If you don't have Edius Workgroup, you could start UHD projects and then change the frame size to 1920x1080 to edit. When finished, just change the frame size back to 3840x2160 and export.

Just some ideas for you to try.

You can find Barry C on the forum.

Default spinning head

Many thanks for that, I have to confess that I have just seen and printed out your response so that I can hopefully make more sense of it when my head stops spinning. I would blame it on the virus but I think it's more based on stupidity.
