Default Blu-Ray questions

1. Is it possible to take a 4GB uncompressed 1920x1080 timeline and burn onto a DVD or it has to go on a Blu-ray disc?

2. Can an uncompressed 1920x1080 timeline which is 17GB in size go right onto a Blu-ray disc in disc creator without compressing it?

1) I believe it has to go to Blu-ray not on DVD.

2) Probably depends on the file format you are running i'm pretty sure it will transcode before burning unless you burn outside of Edius.

I have another question to toss into the Blu-ray qestion thread....

I burned a blu-ray yesterday and it plays fine on my computer but not on PS3. I'm running Edius 6.07 I thought this was resolved? If I take the image into something else and reburn the BDMV folders it plays fine on a PS3 ... what gives?

If your footage is interlaced HD or progressive at 720p then Edius can create both a dvd or a blu-ray disc... the dvd disc will be compressed to DVD complient mpeg2 and mastered into a dvd video disc.. the blu-ray disc will be mastered into a BDMV complient and compressed to either avc/h.264 or mpeg2hd depending on your selection.

However I suspect given the nature of your post what you want to do is simply burn the uncompressed file as data for transfer... at 4GB either disc type will do but dvd will be way cheaper. I suggest you use a burning software that will allow you to add files larger than 2GB if you burn to a dvd. And make sure whoever the recipient is they dont try to play the uncompressed file from the dvd or blu-ray disc ;-p

If I am wrong... shoot me

Best
Dave.

All distributive media is compressed. When you go to DVD it is being compressed to mpeg2.
For blu-ray it is being compressed to either MPEG2HD, h.264, or VC-1. The format depends on our encoder. Edius 6.51 has both MPEG2HD and H.264 choices for encoding to BD. MPEG2HD looks every bit as good as H.264.
H.264 just uses less room on the disc due to its highly compressed format.
But, due to this highly compressed state, it takes much longer to encode.
Using Hardware, well, that can be discussed in another thread.

I too just upgraded to version 6.07 and my newly created blu ray disk is not recognized by my PS3. Tried 3 different burns. Currently working on my 4th try.

Using a BD-RE disk. Worked fine with version 6.06.

Edit: Appears to have been my BD-RE disk. A regular disk is working in my PS3. Not happy with the audio, however. Have to figure that one out.
