Default Question about waveform monitor

Hi..

I did a search in the forums and could not find an answer to this question.
THe waveform monitor has a slider labeled "Intensity". When it's off(all the way to the left) I see a shaded display. As I move it to the right I see a white display that gets brighter and brighter. What does the white image indicate. It seems to me that the shaded display with no white overlay is the most revealing.
I can find no reference to this in the online manual. Can anyone explain what the white waveform is showing?

I always thought it meant just that... intensity of the waveform.

Agreed a lower intensity is the most revealing, though sometimes raising the intensity for certain footage can show small area illegal highlights that go over the 100 line.

you need to switch to IRE view, then you really benefit from the slider showing illegal white and black

I only wish the waveforms would be green as is the world standard and that's how it was in edius3 as seen here

yes, I assumed IRE display only. the confusing thing is that as the intensity is turned up, what appears legal at low intensity, then goes below RGB16 at high intensity, especially when I know the levels are legal.
