Default HDRECS: HDMI input for Edius?

Is this a dream come true or is my Japanese just bad? Looking at this page

http://www.canopus.co.jp/catalog/hdr...recs_index.php

I get the feeling that this piece of hardware is something like a HDMI input card. Hopefully someone from the GVT staff will confirm this :)

From what I recall, it is input-only. I don't know if it has direct support within EDIUS (or it just uses a separate capture app).

I also have no idea on what release schedule (if any) there is for markets outside of Japan.

This product is intended for archival mainly, with an onboard Canopus HQ hardware codec chip. Because of this (FPGA) chip, the price tag is pretty hefty too. It shouldn't be considered a Intensity-type of product.

Nice! I smell new boards coming out from GV? Maybe I'm hallucinating.

You probably are - no HDMI editing boards on the visible horizon.

Thanks for the quick reply, Kenneally.

Looking at the Japanese price I wouldn't call it hefty. It should be well under $1000 outside Japan. And I see other connectors on the card, too. Exciting :)

Maybe I am... :D

An affordable EDIUS HD system would be really nice, right about now...which competes with other companies.

You may not have to hold your breath much longer on this. We've been working closely with GV/Canopus Japan for quite a while now to offer affordably competitive (competitively affordable?) turnkey systems, and there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay tuned!

Sweet! Selling the EDIUS HD cards without a Turnkey would be nice as well. People want to build their own PCs.

And that's the answer I got the other day. When I asked. I got the quiz on it and said it had merits. No need the reply.
What happened next? The r/show demo got held up while the RGB inputs got sorted out (they were plugged wrong). Hmmm... I thought and said nothing! Not meaning to embarass anyone here, 'ML'. Just thought it a timely eg at the time of at at least one benefit of it!

Seems to me, despite current computing power, we will continue to have a need for dedicated 'onboard' hardware acceleration. This has always been the case, and in my opinion, will continue to be the case. Hardware o/b out performing computer, new computer outperforming legacy hardware accelerators .....around and around we go. Same for software vs processing power. They each in turn overtake each other with development.

So new cards or peripheral accelerators such as Mojo are on the horizon as I said elsewhere. 6 mths? What? We shall see........

For me, GV going o/side (with a module interface) may open up more flexibilty as to how you can use the apps and on what platform. Food for thought GV.
