Default i frames

Can you adjust the i frame interval in Procoder Express or Procoder?

No, you can't.

Jim

PS I was just going to answer "no", but apparently that is too short of a message (needs to be ten characters).

Actually, in Procoder 3 you can. If you open the Advanced dialog and look in the Video -> Advanced section of the tree, you can set the "GOP Structure" setting to "I-Frame Only", as well as a few other options.

I guess I misread the question. If the question is 'can you change the gop length'--yes, you can do that (and hence the i frame placement). If the question is can you force i frame placement (which is a feature request going back to 1.5), then the answer is "no". Can you force identical gop segments (ie a requirement for multi-angle), not with PC 2. Maybe that's changed with PC 3, but I haven't found where that setting would be.

So I guess the answer really depends on what you are looking for. I personally wouldn't muck around with the default gop segment settings in PC 3 (or earlier). You run the chance of making the file play back poorly. The only time (for mpeg creation for dvd) forcing where the I frames go (IMO) would be for frame accurate chapter placement, and creating identical gop segment encodes for multi-angle work. There might be some others, but those are the two I can think of off hand.
