I bought my 6.5 upgrade on the 22 July. Went to the link on the GV site today and applied for the upgrade to 7. So we will see what happens.

Just purchase 6.5 on April ... I can feel your pain,
but it is dammned uneligible date for to purchase, so long behind coming out ...
Yeah.. the June free upgrade feels like a kick in a butt for me right now..
I think is bit more fair if GV gave free update for people buy their software in this year... I know they need money support for the development, but come on the 6.5 is not released very long and now we need to pay again for the 7...
maybe after 7.1 they charged again for 7.5 :X

Does anyone know if they will still do fixes/patches on the 6.5x verison? Right now I don't see any advantage for me in V7 and I don't really want to put out the money.

I'm not sure where you got your information, but I was notified that it already left our warehouse well before the mail blast.
Some of the resellers may take a little time to receive, integrate and list the new product on their websites, but it's on its way, if it hasn't already arrived.
Marketing could use help though, in fact, there are a number of jobs posted.

That's your choice, but others will surely have product in-hand before then. ;)

To be accurate, it was www.grassvalley.com registrants that have opted in for Product releases and updates, Use/Own/Have Interest In Editing, and are not (listed) in Japan.
Long story short, the more you tell us about you, the we can tailor the information you receive. :)

Yes, after decades of Japan releasing stuff, the rest of the world gets the new EDIUS first!

Very much agree, if it works, at least support the developer and pay for it. Otherwise it's not far from profiting off the charity of others.

Sorry, but that would be totally impractical. If you are in any software related business, you know that over the years, you will end up on both sides of the free upgrade fence. Sometimes, you will just make it and sometimes just miss it. It usually balances out in the end. And frankly, it does not matter what the cutoff date is, someone will complain because they just missed it. BTW, 6.5 is over a year old...

Though not official, I am sure past history will hold. Normally there might be one or two updates for the older software after a newer version is released, but that is about it.

EDIUS Pro 6.5 was released June 28, 2012. So it's been out a little over a year.

I know software business is tough, but all business is kinda tough these day...
And yes 6.5 is release in June, but with a lot of bug... and the software more stable after a couple of updates... IIRC after 6.52 the software is much more stable... February this year I believe... I can't risk using buggy software that's why I decided buying on april. Since 6.53 is quite stable enough you know...

I still think the "cut off" only a month before v7 release is quite harsh since the cycling is much more shorter now... I believe version 5 and 6 is around 2 years apart right?

Hopefully the upgrade price is reasonable then. *finger cross*
