Does it matter what I edit in? My video is displaying just fine on-screen in any preset. All I need to know is that I'll be able to export 50p from a 25p project preset. (Once again I correct myself... it IS a 25p - not i - preset)

So is it correct to say that as long as I can see the video on screen ok, it doesn't matter what your project preset is, and the only thing that's important is the export setting?

no, that is wrong

the project setting is the important thing

what do you wish to make? DVD or Blu-ray or web?

25p is typically useless (stuttervision) for DVD or Blu-ray but ok for web

25p is not supported at all for Blu-ray

We are going in circles. Let me clarify my question.

You wrote:
"25p is not supported at all for Blu-ray".

I know this. But what is wrong with this:
1. I edit 50p footage in a project preset of 25p.
2. I export the final files to 50p (There IS an option to choose 50p as export).
3. I burn to blu ray as 50p.

So even though I edited in a 25p project preset, I export to 50p so I can burn to blu ray. Wouldn't this be correct?

why edit in 25p when source footage is 50p and then export to 50p?

why not edit in 50p? it makes more sense to me

or is your source footage 25p and I misunderstood?

Ok, maybe this is why we weren't on the same page.

I never made a 50p preset and have all my presets in 50i. When I started my project, I started in 1920x1080 50i. After a few hours of editing, I remembered that this footage is 1280x720 50p. When I went to change the project preset, the only closest thing that I was able to change to was 1280x720 25p.

Even if I open a new project in 50p, it won't allow me to import the first project since it's not the same frame rate. I don't want to re-edit so that's why I want to finish the editing in the 25p preset and just export to 50p. Since the resolution exists (the source footage is 50p), I would assume that there shouldn't be a problem exporting 50p files from a 25p timeline and that's what I'm asking is correct.

now you managed to totally confuse me

you are editing 50i, and then you want to edit 25p and then export to 50p, that is total distruction

so, in order to solve your current issue

1. change your 1920x1080 50i project to 1440x1080 50i (1280 footage will not be scaled to 1920)

this will make your 1280x720 50p footage look pretty good, you may need to apply 12% sharpness to the 1280 clips

2. when the edit is finished, export to HQ Fine or lossless

3. start a 1280x720 50 project and load the above file from step2, will make a brilliant Blu-ray (if using EDIUS 6.5)

Ok, I finally understood you! Changing a project preset effects the video quality on the timeline! That's what I wasn't sure about.

I'll do as you suggested. Thanks!

By the way, my 50i project files are saved with at least 60 bin folders and sequences that I just "save as" when I start a new project. There are lots of assets already in place on timelines and volumes are adjusted on many tracks.

It would be CRAZY to have to do all that again to make the same project preset in 50p. Why on earth can't we change a 50i project to 50p? Does this limitation exist in Edius 6.5 as well?
