I have DVCPro, DigiBeta and Betacam SP decks yes mainly for archive, and yes agree files are now dominant, but the tapes will be around for a while yet for retreiving archive content.

I had a Neighbours actress bring me U-Matic footage recently which I could play and edit from.

All good. As I said since you can use EDIUS 8.53 along with EDIUS 9 . That means that you can still use your card with the deck control. :)

Same as Mike. We currently have Storm3G setup but where to after that? File based doesn't help for acquisition from archival broadcast formats so what to do when current cards die? Go to Adobe or Avid I guess.

So you are archiving on tape and then having to record to get back online? No digital?

Eh if there is need you can still capture with the supported cards without deck control if your Storm 3g card dies.
IIRC Black magic provides Media express which you can use for capture with deck control...........
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/pro...k/mediaexpress

Seriously there are a lot of options.

Haha! Sometimes I really do wonder!! This is for ingest of existing archival materials supplied by clients on various tape media formats often with batch lists. Yes we can capture without deck control but it is tedious as we all know. You are also correct Blackmagic Media Shuttle has deck control but as we all know they do not capture to HQ, HQX codecs, same for AJA. You say lots of options I say lots of work arounds. It seems to me that with each version the number of work arounds increases. Sad thing is deck control is implemented on various BMD and AJA devices and SDK's exist. Yes we work mostly digital like everyone else these days but there are times when for certain documentary projects there are a large amounts of archival materials to ingest from batch lists supplied by clients. I'm not GV bashing just stating my opinion. Cheers!

I agree it can't be that difficult to write the Deck control module for 3rd party cards compared to what has needed to be written for the rest of the software.

If SDK's are available a good part of the work is done.

Not all of us want to capture huge files from BMD Media Express I just tried some PAL 720 x 576 50i off DigiBeta and it is recorded uncompressed 170Mb/sec and 41 seconds is 840Mbytes.

Premier Pro allows DVCPro 50 via BMD which is less at 297Mb for the same time.

My case rests

Mike
