Default Consolidation... finally a reliable solution

I have been investigation... and finally found a good way without any risks.

My previous post (the essentials) :

I want to consolidate a project of 80 minutes with around 1500 files... wich are coming from a very big archive history folder (577 subfolder - 7.845 files - 980 GB)

Of course I will create a brand new folder to store all necessary files (and only the ones needed).

1) I want to maintain the original folder that contains all files (used and not used for the project) as it is : nothing has to be changed or delete. It is my complete archive collection...

2) Copy all the necessary files used on the Timeline and only these in the new folder.

3) Files in the Bin and used on the Timeline may stay, not used may disapear from the Bin.

The solution exists and I have practize it with success at the first use.

Moreover the method create in the new folder a clone structure of sub-folders based on the genuine archive folder (creating only the folders needed for Edius project). The bin stays the same, the project name stays the same.

The result in the new folder compare to the genuine one is :

- from 577 subfolder to 266
- from 7.845 files to 1500
- from 980 GB to 82 GB

The only problem is that the procedure is in French... and I don't yet take the time to translate in correct English... but if some of you are interested...

Last point, it would be fair to congratulate the man who propose that elegant procedure. So if you go there, please don't forget to thank him.

Opinions are welcome

If you use Google Chrome it will translate it instantly.
Attached is a translation that I have skipped through and it appears to make sense in English.

I wonder if I am not alone in giving consolidation a wide berth? Irrespective of the reliability, a paid project is archived in full on a hard drive costing 50. Should changes be required down the line for whatever reason, everything is available. I can think of many examples where consolidation would have been a disaster.
Is fifty quid a game changer?

I estimate your point of view... but it is just responding to your way of working. Globaly : The HD price is sufficient for people wich don't need more then 1 original of their jobb and this answer is not a response to face the question.

Here I some points of my needs taking also price and time into account :

1) To transmit the project on another computer. I am working in tandem with other people. Why transport or duplicate 1GB is 92 MB is sufficient...

2) The genuine project is actually close to 1TB. I am sure it will still growth because other versions and languages are coming. Will I use a 2TB just because of more space

3) Any project needs a safe plan B copy, in my way of working. So we speak about 2 HD for the genuine archive (taking point 2 into account) and a third one to transmit the project. Again copies are taking time.

4) I should post this point in 1). Consolidation is a feature proposes by Edius from the beginning. It is their proposition and initiative... the professionnal level of Edius needs reliability and upgrades are welcome. But I read that since 5.51 it did not.

5) A user has proposed a good solution on a french forum and it works.
Should I know that before... I would not been annoying people on these forum because I respect the "up to size" people (as Anton & Kenlewis translator) who invest a lot of time to help other...

6) Finally, when a solution of workaround exits it's pleasure to share on the forum

This was IMHO
