Default Exporting From Edius for Region 5 DVD

I am going to be filming a wedding in Ireland (PAL) for a couple who will then be living in Africa after the wedding. Their DVD region is Region 5, whereas most of Europe is 2.

I'm inclined to do what I did recently for an American couple, which is supply the files as MP4s digital downloads/USB stick. But, nevertheless, should they specifically want DVDs, what do I do?

It will all be filmed in 1080i PAL.

Why are you bothered about region? Region is for Commercial DVDs- Hollywood blockbusters. Make it region free. (0) Regions are nothing to do with NTSC or PAL. Sorry but this is VERY basic.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but please don't take that tone with me. There's nothing wrong with asking a question if you're not sure and probably does expose that I don't know it all and have a lot to learn. Yes, it might be very basic, but it's based on a very real concern as the last time I did a DVD for an American customer they said that they couldn't watch it. It just wouldn't play.

So, maybe you could explain to me how to make it region free in Edius please, even if it is a little basic. Cheers.

Tone or no tone...Firstly Google DVD region and understand why DVD regions exist. If you are making DVDs for US and locking them to region 2 they may well not play as the players, unless multi region, will be locked to Region 1. Region 0 is region free. For the US the DVD needs to be authored and encoded in NTSC.
For Africa just make it in PAL REGION FREE!!!

I think the issue one might run into and maybe happened to you in the past is as follow.

NTSC DVD players are not multi system players and will likely reject PAL DVD discs, this had nothing to do with region.

In Europe we have multi system players which can play both NTSC and PAL DVD discs.
Most players are also region free.

If you shot your project in PAL just deliver in PAL, you can always provide a mp4 file which should cover you pretty well.

# just a question to the NTSC region based users here on the forum, how well (or not at all) play modern TV's a mp4 file made in PAL frame rate ?

That is not correct. Region coding can be used on burnt discs as well as pressed. It's always been in Encore and in case I was going senile, I just burnt a disc as Region 1 (instead of the all regions 0 option) and my ASDA DVD player proudly displayed WRONG REGION.

The OP was asking about making a DVD using Edius. I assume there is no option for Region?

If that is the case what does Edius DVD Creator default to......Region 0?
