Default ? About Using a 4K Monitor & 1080 Monitor Together

I'm wondering if it is feasible to run a dual monitor system with different resolution monitors. I presently have two 27" 1080 monitors but am thinking about replacing one of those monitors with a 32" 4K monitor. I'm using Edius 7.42 and Windows 8.1. My system is a 4790 Haswell with a Nvidia 970, so the hardware is certainly up to the task. My concern is if there will be any issue running these two resolutions together. Also, since Edius 7.42 isn't scalable, I'm wondering how small the fonts will look when I'm using the 4K monitor for the timeline, bin, etc. Most of the time, I'll be using it for playback, but when I'm editing 3D, I'll need to use the other-1080- monitor for playback and will necessitate using the larger 4K one for the controls.

I have run EDIUS on two different resolution screens and it works IF you have the same scaling set on both screens. Windows 10 will probably set the 4k screen to a different scaling resolution which leads to problems, especially is using the fuil screen playback.

EDIUS 7 will not scale and most of the interface will be too small to see set to 100% scaling. And you will have to set the 4K screen to 100% scaling since the HD screen will also have to be on 100%.

The best way to use a 4K screen and an HD screen is to set the 4K screen to HD resolution, thereby making buying it a complete waste if time.

EDIUS 8 has similar problems. Most of the interface will scale properly if you change the display scaling to 150/200% - although not all of it - but you can't do that because the HD screen will need to be at 100%.

Thanks, David. Well, the bad news is, I would have liked to have been able to use that configuration for 4K projects. But, the good news is you've just saved me a lot of money, since I now won't buy the monitor!

It sounds like it might be a long time before all this gets sorted out.

Two 4K screens works ok with EDIUS 8, although there are still some parts of the interface that do not scale well - notably the effects area. Fixing this is on the roadmap for EDIUS 8 but we don't know when. EDIUS 7 will never be changed to work on a 4K screen - that was one of the main changes in EDIUS 8, redesigning the interface for a 4K computer screen.
