You will be fine with the Evo. Here is a very simple explanation of the differences.
http://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic...ro-and-evo-ssd
I just ordered an 850 Pro from Newegg for $185.98 shipped. You can get an 840 Evo 500gb drive for $224.99 on special from Newegg until tomorrow evening with free shipping.

If you are sure that you are only using 73gb of a 500gb drive, you can use Acronis to clone your 500gb drive and it can clone it proportionally. That way a 256gb drive will work.

Nothing wrong with those, but I would go with a 256G Samsung 850 Pro or the 840 Pro if you want to save a few $

The SSD is the same for those two SKUs.

The only difference is that the MZ-7TE500LW is a notebook upgrade kit which comes with an adapter that allows you to connect the drive to a USB port for the purpose of doing a data transfer. For an extra $10, that's a good investment if you don't already have such an adapter.

I have two 1TB 840 EVO drives and am very happy with them.

Just one thing, don't load the Samsung Magician to use with the drive, better without it providing you have a program where you can control the "TRIM" function
Drive is faster plus the program can cause problems with Windows Disk image if you use it
I use O&O defragmenter which can TRIM there are probably others
