Agreed. From 3 or 4 to this I think 299 USD is fine, but to upgrade from 5 to 6? The way that will work out for us in the UK, it's too much in my book.

Whilst 64 bit may seem to be the holy grail these days perhaps one should reflect on the fact that 32bit E.5 still outperforms 64 bit Premiere CS5 in many areas of real time performance. Having compared both software on the same PC I notice that when using E.5 the % cpu processing and core temperature is generally less than when carrying out identical processes with PP. Additionally, more real time effects may be applied before rendering is necessary. The tests were carried out on an i7 950 based PC fitted 12GB RAM and a GFX460 CUDA card. The addition of an MX02 with FAST processor does help a little, but Edius still outperforms the much more expensive PC requirement that PP CS5 demands.

So, in the real world, 32 bit can still work wonders - just think what might be achieved when. and if, Edius goes 64bit!

Default Procoder 3

Another question: compatibility with Procoder 3.

The questions I have are: Is it faster than 5.5? are there other improvements to the DVD exporter other than motion menus? ie can it import .psd layers? can Edius 6 make a Encore compliant h.264 file?

So let's see you want to go 10 bit AND be faster. Hmmmm. Not faster but processing is not slower either (as most had predicted it would be). No psd layers. Maybe Jerry knows about Encore.

Upgrade price in Europe mentioned to me on IBC today is EUR 239,- excl tax.

Interesting was that an Edius 6 demo station was also set up at the Canon Europe stand.

on IBC .........today tells, it is the current version >MercalliV2< bundled with Edius _6

but GV Document-site tells: it is the legacy (old) Mercalli Expert bundled with Edius _6

iZotope

>Mercalli Expert< is the legacy >Mercalli version_1 ....look at:

Please, if it is true, what tells today on IBC ....correct the /PRV-4015D-4_EDIUS_Software.pdf
