Question How to create a long scrolling trailer text with QuickTitler

I tried to create some long (i.e.: high) text object in Quicktitler of EDIUS 8.5 that I wanted to scroll slowly (slide up) in a trailer.
  • Unfortunately it turned out that only the middle part of the title was available (the top and bottom was missing, respectively)!
  • Next thing I tried was to export the title text as an image file, and use that file in a video track with layouter in EDIUS. Unfortunately the exported bitmap image had also been truncated on top and bottom.
  • Next thing I tried was to use a word processor to write white on black, and export that as an image (rest as described before). That worked, but the background is not transparent.
Now I wonder: Why is Quicktiler silently truncating high text objects, and what is the correct method to have some longer scrolling text in EDIUS?

Here is a long form Quicktitler scroll.
Quicktitler 18 page scroll.zip

Put this on your timeline and extend it out to 3 minutes. I played this out to my monitor and it was smooth as silk.
If you are playing this on your computer with the Edius overlay, it may be jerky. You can add optical flow to it to
smooth it out.
If you want to see how it is assembled, double click the title and view all of the settings.

I am away skiing at the moment so do not have Edius available so may not use the correct word. I am sure Jerry can correct me. Make sure you are not on the still mode frame. I make a text file and then copy and paste into quicktiltler. You can select to scroll up down etc. Format the text as you want. Use the scrol bar on the right of the text frame to make sure it is what you want then save.

Sounds like you don't have the quicktitler in the right mode. You need to use a roll for a vertical movement or a crawl for a horizontal movement.

See attached screen shots.

Thanks, I did not know about that, or I did not think about that!
This will solve my problem (in some different way as intended, but anyway).
It seems Quick Titler now creates a video instead of a still image, and adding title effects does not make sense any more, right?

One interesting question remaining is: Where should the initial text be placed vertically when using roll:
Having it centered vertically in Quick Titler, about 1/3rd of the total title time elapses on the timeline before the first line of the text object appears at the bottom. The end seems to match (the last line disappeasrs at the top immediately before the title time has elapsed), however.

Checking the official manual, I found out that the description for this is missing.
BTW: It seems the icons for horizonal and vertical centering of objects is swapped in EDIUS 8 (didn't notice in EDIUS 7).

the first line of text in a roll should be at the very top

if it is not at the top, you will be waiting a while until text appears once you start playing the clip

Thanks for that! It can be tricky if you disregard the scrollbar on the right ;-)
Despite of that an interesting question is why there is space on the top if I center a text object vertically that is higher than the screen.
As I don't like the text moving from the very bottom to the very top, I wonder how I could add a title effect like "Slide A fade" or "Slide B fade" (Guessing English original from German translation); especially if I place the title on the title track.

when yo do rolls, use the object layouter (not open by default) and center content to top middle

note: the object layouter is always closed when you reboot PC or start a new project, so this is the first thing I always open before I type anything (reported bug 7 years ago)
