You just have to be aware that single LUT is not a solution for every recording.
Watch 2nd link which I added. Some over/under expose in image can cause very bad end effect after applying "good" LUT.
The issue often is that cam operators don't shoot with the suggested range for the LOG profile.

The conversion LUT expects a signal which is within the range of the log. Curves are for NLE's in case of cam manufactures are based on those ranges.

Camera manufactures have been helping operators by adjusting the zebras automatically to the range of the LUT so that it is easier to stay within the range. For example on the GH5 when you choose Vlog the Zebra (highs) goes to 80% automatically.
Shooting LOG for LUT conversion is more intensive. You have to watch scopes ....a lot.

While I understand what you are saying, we all need a little help sometimes and a LUT can be just that help to get you started. :)

Yes the Sony software reads all metadata from the camera and I did not make any adjustments in browse just exported the as shot settings to a 709 LUT from browse. I just wanted to see how close this would be in Edius PCC as Edius adhears to manufacturers specs/values. It's close but there is a shift. Using browse for Sony cameras is a helpful way to understand exactly what your shooting.

Thanks for your replies on this thread. This looks like an area that will be discussed a lot in the future. Hopefully we can become comfortable with the workflow and make better images. Glad to see GV adding more support as this is quite far away from the newsroom!
