Default HELP!-Changing Project Settings wount work..!

Ok,

must admit that i am lost on this one..!

I am working mostly with p2-footage and i started a new big project.
First thing i had to do was synchronizing video and external sounds.
To do so, i did 3 different projects for 3 different parts of the original footage.

Now i wanted to bring all 3 Parts together, to start editing:
but i found out that i couldnt, as i mistakenly choose different project settings when i started working on the 3 parts!

And the horrible thing is: i cant change one setting to another..!

Here are the details, i just did a new project right now, the setting is(pal land) 960x720 25p over 50p i did import one of the 3 parts as a SEQUENCE and it worked perfectly!
But when i tried to import the 2nd part i received the error: "cant open file. The video standart does not match the current settings"

So i thought, ok, i will go and open the other 2 projects and reset the different settings (only differende to the settings on top is that the frame-rate is "50p" instead of "25 over 50p"), but i just cant select the needed 960x720 25p over 50p project setting...!!

So i dont find any way out of this problem, until this day i thought i could easyly change any project settings in Edius whenever i like, but it doesnt look like..!??

I really need help here-urgently, as i have to edit ALL the 3 parts tomorrow in 1 new project...is there any other solution?

I tried to export as a EDL, but i receive an error message too..(EDL for V1 an Audio Channel 1-4
Writing has been canceled
+Clips with different frame rates from the current project setting are on timeline")

So i obviously did a mistake, but Edius doesnt let me correct the problem..Please Help!

Without rendering, you're not going to like the answer I give you.

Oh come on..!!!

Tell me this is not true...i got hundreds of clips on timeline, all put together with external Audio...!

Where is this problem coming from??
Ok, i did a mistake in advance, but i never discovered before that couldnt change the settings anymore...(i am not sure if this was the same in previous versions...).
But i dont see a way to render the stuff, if i do so, i loose the Original Audio(which is much often longer then the video file of course..) and i do ned this for the final Audio mix....dont tell me i have to repeat 1 week of work??!

Thats crazy...i mean there must be another way to work around that..??

I dont got an external Monitor here right now, but what happens if i output the signal(50p OR 25p) to the monitor...does the 50p display fine too?

I finally need to go to SD in 16:9 here, but must prserve the HD too...i am really f.....!

Hope i find a different solution..or someone else..!??

p.s. so the right setting for this footage(P2 720pn from HVX) would be 25p over 50p..!!??..i really dont get it why i cant change this afterwards..the footage itself isnt changed at all..so its just a matter of setting..!??

Peter,

I'm going to give it to you straight.
I have been doing something on AAf. Previously I thought the framerate convertion limit was only between Color system PAL <->NTSc.
But in my looking in to this I have discovered that there are more limitations with in a standard.
This is one of the things that I have come across. So without exporting to avi You are not going to be able to do what you want.

The following thing I have discovered I give you as some info so you are not going to drive your self nuts.

If you have an project and you import files with a different frame rate Edius will do the conversion on the fly. That is what we all know.
BUT that is a BIG BUT if you do this there is no way for now you can use AAf because Edius doesn't do framerate convertion before info is send to AAF.
So the AAF generation will fail . I am going to contact GV/Canopus on this because it will have big implications.

..well..thanks for your help..although i am not really getting it right now, just puzzeled and trying to find a solution...as i cant really export the stuff to .avi (coming from P2, documentary stuff..loads of files and mainly the limitation to not being able to "cut" the original Audio footage, as i need to have the opportunity to use it via AAF...)

Well now i am getting what you are saying about AAF SR...i had the same problem when i tried to export to EDL...so thats what you are talking about..!

So i am trying to get this problem straight now, as 25p over50 seems to be the right setting i need to re-work 2 of the 3 parts somehow..!!

I spontaniously thought to do it this way: open the 2 "wrong-set" projects, get rid of all the Videofiles with the "wrong" format and export the EDL to get the external Audio files at the right point in TL and right trimming...that would make it quite easy to re-import my Videofiles (as i basicly used all the footage, sometimes moved some clips to keep more of the longer external Audio in TL..so that there are practicly some video "wholes" from time to time..), but unfortunatly also the EDL-export doesnt work for me right..its my first time though using it in edius..!

Well the EDL-export works fine, but when i open the file in a new project with the right settings, Edius is trying to do a kind of "restoring-files" ("find offline clips"), but it looks different from the one i see normally...!? ("capture entire clip.."/ "capture only area used in timeline.."/ "find from captured files...")
But the message is always "necessary files were not found"....it somehow looks like the EDL is not working fine..but i will keep trying on this route, as this would be the easyest to rebuilt the whole thing..IF the EDL works..!!?

Any suggestion is welcome here...!

No..i cant just export it..for different reasons..unfortunatly..!

The longer version then:

Your issue here is that you have two sequences built upon a 50p timebase, and one built (erraneously) upon a 25p-over-50p timebase.

Simply put, that rogue project simply cannot import, as a whole, into a project with a differing timebase. 25p-over-50p is not the same as 50p, in terms of timebase (or whatever term you prefer to use). It's precisely the same reason why you cannot import an NTSC project into a PAL project.

The question is always asked - "How can you claim to support realtime mixed frame rate editing then?" - the answer is that we will always say that you can have clips of any mix of formats, resolutions and frame rates on the same timeline, but we will never say that you can import or merge projects with differing frame rates. This is how EDIUS is built.

So how to fix your issue. I'm not exactly sure why this isn't an option, but for you I suggest:

1. Continue the editing as normal, with the (2 as 1) 50p project, and the separate 25p over 50p project.

2. Render out the finished 25p over 50p project. Import that finished file into the 50p project and export the lot out into whatever format you need.

The only other (infeasible) option is to rebuild the 25p over 50p project within a new, correct 50p project. Though honestly, I think my suggestion is a lot less painless, with minimal quality degradation. We didn't win praise on our codecs for nothing.

Re my previous post: I see you meant to use 25-over-50 for all three. In that case, I'd probably still stick with my suggestion. You're not required to abandon the final edited projects, even if they have the wrong frame rate setting - it's still going to be an easier proposition than rebuilding from scratch with an imminent deadline.

The problem is he is using bwf and I think he needs to send those to an audio suite for work.
They need the separate edl or aaf.

So your second option is the best in that situation. :)

okey...thanks for your suggestion too...!

Well i am getting that this are two different settings, and i definitly get the example with Pal and Ntsc....but the Raw Video footage i use (P2 720pn PAL) is not changed at all, so i dont get why i cant change the project settings here..but maybe i am missing something here right now..!?

What i am getting totally clear is that there is no "easy" way out as Edius wount allow me to change the Project settings like this afterwards...!

So i will try to find a good solution to rebuilt it painless (via EDL-export of the adjusted external-Audio-files only...which doesnt work so far because of the EDL re-import..hmmmm).

Ill report back later...!

I am honestly a little bit confused which setting is the "right" one though..!
I dont think its the 50p, but the 25p over 50p, as the 25p wount cause any trouble when i am trying to create a AAF or EDL, and that obviously what i NEED to do at the end after all the editing, as it has to work like that for a complex Audio-mixdown in a different Programme in the end...so this information would be very important too, as i am just starting this whole edit, but as the documentary is going to be shot over the next 18 month, there is much more footage to come, that needs to be included into the same project...(so working side by side with the 50p/12 over 50p is not really an opportunity in this case...impossible to edit like that unfortunatly..!).

...sorry..i was writing my previous post in the mean time..

which one would be the 2nd option SR?
I am getting a little confused here...i definitly have to set it ALL to the right project...otherwise i wound end up with a proper AAF as you mentioned...!

I will try now to work the EDL-thing out..still seems to be a good option if i can make it work somehow..otherwise i will ask back for it..simply exporting an EDL that just contains some .wav files shouldnt be impossible for Edius?

But reopening it in a new project gives me the restore-information i described above...hmmm..however, i keep trying to fix it..!

By the way SR...25p over 50p should be the right setting right?!?(i dont get an error message from that project when i am trying to export EDL/AAF from there..-well i didnt test AAF yet as it is a lot of video files..but i assume its the same as the EDL-export that works..!)

Thanks again!
