Default W10 upgrade

In order to get optinal compatibility between the expexted Edius 8 upgrade and W10, will migration frm W7/8>W10 be OK, or is a clean W10 install and Edius re-install the way to go?

Although either should work, I think everyone here who does anything with computers will advise you to do a clean install and then reinstall your programs. It is a chance to start fresh and not continue with any old problems or any conflicts when operating with a new OS.

I will say that an upgrade using Windows 10 is very smooth and painless. This is provided your system has the hardware to support it.
An upgrade with 10 doesn't have the stigma that it once did in earlier versions of Windows. If you don't know how to install from scratch, an upgrade will work.

That said, I do a complete clean install for each version of Edius. The way I can do this, is to start with an absolutely clean Windows install and then do my clone drives from there.

Windows starts out clean and as time progresses items are automatically written to the drive and those build up. Doing a clean install starts you out fresh. Basically, if you had issues with the programs on the system drive those issues could be carried over on the upgrade.

Yes, doing a full install is a lot more work. But, if you do the clean install with the necessary clone drives, you can always clone the system drive in case of a failure. Also, if you do a Windows only clone drive when the next version of Edius is released you will have a clean version from which to start.
I'm running Edius 8 and Edius 7.5 on one machine. This system alone has 2 SSD's and 4 clone drives:
1. A complete Windows 7 64bit build with drivers and tweaking
2. A complete Windows 7 64bit build with drivers and tweaking along with Adobe CC 2015. This drive will also include my extra support programs such as Smartsound, TMPGE MW5, etc.
3. Drive #2 with Edius 7.5
4. Drive #2 with Edius 8 Workgroup

The only step you will miss is having a clean Windows drive if you do an upgrade.

You may not need this level of redundancy, but it is nice to have if something fails.

Think about this http://www.techworm.net/2014/10/micr...very-move.html
before you upgrade.

Maybe it is time for Edius for Linux. Isn't it??

That's not that big of a deal. All of the 'big brother' aspects of the software can be disabled very easily. The downside is Microsoft has them on by default.

Telemetry, Biometrics, Advertising ID, Bing search, Cortana, Windows Update sharing, Feedback requests, password Reveal button, Steps Recorder, Inventory Collector and Application Telemetry are all items that can be disabled.

Smile windows 10 upgrade

I took a chance and upgräded my two 8.1 PCs one of which running 8.1 and the other one 8.1 Pro and also Edius Pro 7.5.

I have had no problems at all - only one thing was missing when I first opened the Windows Pro PC. Some of the passwords to some forums I visit regularly were missing. My ongoing Project in Edius runs perfectly and clips have been found on several internal disks as usual.

Of course it will take a while to learn how to get around in Windows 10 but once you are in Edius all is familiar. The same goes for other installed programs I have tested during the time after the upgrade - three weeks.

I hope that this message does not make anybody Believe that there will not be any problem. Guess I was just lucky.

Did you deactivate Edius before installing Windows 10? Is deactivation necessary or recommended? Thanks
