The Mac user would need the codec pack for this to work as we have mentioned many times in this thread. Which is the downside of using HQX codec as the person receiving the file has to have the codec on their PC. Actually doesn't matter if that is a Mac or a PC. ProRes is far more universal and almost any professional NLE on any PC will read the files. ProRes is standard on a Mac so all will read that.

Clearly if you want to totally solve your problem buy the upgrade to EDIUS 9 and all your problems will go away as you could then export a ProRes file for the Mac user. You would then also get EDIUS 10 when it comes out for free.

OK, Let's try this yet again, and please try to read and understand/follow these points.:

These codec packs are plugins for Quicktime 7, and you must have Quicktime 7 installed for them to work correctly, and the file must be an MOV for correct handling. On a newer mac (anything after OSX 10.6 if I recall), double-clicking the file will open in QuicktimeX, which does not use the GV codeck pack. You have to forcibly open with the older quicktime 7 version.

ProRes is native on a mac and does not require installation of an older Quicktime 7 or a codec pack.

Your best option is to export to HQX and then convert to ProRes using something like Xmedia Recode for use on a mac, assuming you don't have the Miraizon codec pack or Edius 9. This way you are not requiring the Mac user to install anything to handle your files. It is an extra conversion step, and will take some time, but it isn't difficult and it avoids the headaches when the mac user complains about not being able to open your files because he/she does not have the old quicktime or codec pack installed.

You will not loose any noticeable quality. Kurt and I have been telling you to export to HQX because it is a very good quality mezzanine and mastering codec, and quality wise it is very close to ProRes and DNxHD/HR, showing no visible difference in quality. Slight differences are visible between the 3 of them when put on a waveform monitor, but nothing that is visible when looking at the video.

I am dealing with files going between different editing and finishing systems every day. It is always best to give a Mac ProRes or the preferred codec of the NLE software.

I understand, sorry if I ask too many things but I just want to know how it works, I have a friend who uses mac and fcpx 10.4.8 with Catalina and does not see the canopus HQX files, but I think the best solution is to switch to edius 9 and then to UNIVERSAL prores I say good?
Sorry again the many questions, now I understand, thanks again friends.

I would suggest you pay the extra and get the Work Group version as that will give you the ability to change the preview resolution and help playback of UHD files on your PC also output over various video cards, and no need to access the internet for license confirmation frequently.
