Default Multi Pass!!

Just doing a few coversions using PC3 for my ipod, the default setting is for multi pass encoding which, on my system, starts as 1 of 100 passes, surely this is slightly over the top, I thought 2 pass was standard!

Resetting to single pass all works fine, this happens whilst open with Edius or standalone.

Just thought I'd bring this up as someone might wonder why a simple encode is taking 2 days!

Paul

That's because Procoder has no idea how many passes QuickTime will make, so it seems to use a worst-case scenario. In practice I've never seen QuickTime make more than seven passes.

Everyone assumes that multipass is always two passes, but that is based on most people's experiences with consumer encoding products. The six-figure encoders used by Hollywood studios to produce DVDs often make twenty passes to try to squeeze every little bit of quality out of the available bandwidth.
