Default GV HD Storm Plus vs GV STORM Mobile

Can Someone tell me the differences (advantages too) between the HD Storm Plus Vs the New Storm Mobile. Is one better than the other?
These are the key differences of what i have compared relevant to the GV product comparision document...

HDStorm Plus
  • Has HQ (Hardware Encoder)
  • Has RCApin Monitor Audio Out
  • On the bay (component/composite, HDMI, and audio IN/OUT)
  • Can capture video with HDStorm Plus at 8-bit HQ

Storm MOBILE
  • Does not have (HQ Hardware Encoder)
  • Has Hardware real-time down conversion (For Monitoring SD/HD)
  • On the Bay/Box (component, HDMI, and audio IN/OUT with separate composite I/O, Plus has 1 stereo mini jack with a Digital amplifier/Volume control)
  • Can capture video with STORM Mobile at higher quality 10- bit HQX.

As for capturing info looks like it is the same except Storm Mobile captures all SD progressive video as interlaced video and you can capture video with
STORM Mobile at higher quality (HQ mode: 4:2:2) HQX.

My questions are:
1: How is the RCA pin Monitor audio out vs Headphones Out differ quality wise, Of coz other than the amplification?

2: How can Storm Mobile capture higher quality HQX at 10-bit if it does'nt have an HQ encoder chip (according to the PDF specs)?

3: If i were to buy one between these two what is recommended? Since the HDStorm plus is already a legacy hardware.. Feature wise i prefer a system where encoding, capturing and real-time previewing of effects and edits using the GV hardware without cpu utilisation (Of coz not entirely).

Please give me your suggestions and recommendations...

2 HQ encoder does HQ 8 bit in the HD Storm does 8 bit.
HQX is the new codec which supports 10 bit. They are different.

3 Our boards are mostly I/O boards , except for those having a HQ encoder.
SO in short the board will not be of substantial benefit with realtime previewing (as in processing effects and such) and encoding. EDIUS uses the cpu for any processing.
Where our boards shine is that they give you a broadcast signal for monitoring and color correction and they convenience of different connections.

So that means the HD Storm Plus is a I/O board with a HQ encoder and STORM Mobile is just an I/O board?

To make use of the new HQX 10-bit codec do i need the encoder chip built-in for performance or does the Storm Mobile already include the encoder chip? If it does not then it basically uses the CPU to encode/decode the HQX codec(10-bit). Am i right?

There is no real need for chips- current PCs are way fast enough to handle encoding.

As far as I understand Storm mobile does not support 10bit capture.

I did my own research and came across a reseller who have nicely explained the difference between these two I/O boards..see this link for anyone interested..

@Andrzej- Yeah true current PCs are fast enough but just getting a lil more performance is a plus if its available.

Why mention 10bit HQX if it doesnt support 10bit capture.?

Based on this information it does support 10bit or it's again missleading information- maybe it's 8bit, but captured into HQX.

Looking at GV Site the HDStorm is now classified as legacy

Thanks for giving your opinions and replies. I was lucky to have cancelled my HDstorm order in time since the B&H delayed my shipment of the HDStorm and am glad it happened. Now i got my Storm Mobile from videoguys.com as they were the only one having the full option version. For anyone planning to get the GV Storm Mobile, I suggest get the external version as you can use it internally by removing the cover of the BOB and installing it inside and you also got an option to use as it is externally. If anyone interested see the small unboxing video of the storm mobile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0cmnK3JEXc
Also attached is the various versions of the Storm Mobile box.
