Default ADVC 300 outputs black and white.

Hi.
I'm not sure if this problem has been answered here already and I apologize in advance if it has been. If it has, can someone please point me in the direction of the thread....

I am capturing a svideo signal from a sky+ digital box onto my pc with the svideo cable and the two RCA audio plugs plugged into the front of my ADVC 300. I'm connecting the ADVC 300 to my pc via a firewire cable. I can get it recognized in the picture controller but it only outputs a black and white picture. The thing is that it worked fine last night but not today. I've tried adjusting all the controls in the picture controller to see if it makes any difference but no.

Thinking it might be something in the pc, I tried it on my laptop with the same result.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance.
Don.

If it truly did work last night and nothing at all changed, then it might be a flakey S-Video cable.

I'll see if I can borrow a known good one or maybe buy another one and try that.

Thanks for now..

It was the cable. I got a new one and the problem is solved. Everthing seems to be working fine now.

Thanks.

I've gone through a number of S-video cables over the years, both cheap and not-so-cheap. Must be something to do with the small plugs.

Indeed - the pins seem to be quite fragile....

Typical of consumer-type products. Not sufficiently robust for many frequent insertions.
