Default Is this normal?

I captured a tape and ended up with 300 clips in the bin

then I sorted the bin and deleted all I don't need and then saved but kept Edius open to act as a file in use indicator

Then I opened Windows Explorer and selected all video files of this project and pressed delete

this normally should pop a warning that files are in use, and should give the option to say yes or no to all in order to only delete files not attached to project

but now I don't get this option and all files delete with no warning, then moments later all clips in bin turn into missing file icons

I could swear that this worked in earlier versions

I just tried it with two clips I didn't need, in a new project.

Put one on the timeline and then went into explorer and deleted both.

Both deleted.

Can you use JKL keys and multicam/1 2 numbers for switching cams?

That happened to me too, a lot of times. Sometimes it lets me delete a clip in use, sometimes it doesn't. I wonder what is the rule for that?

Try adding them to the timeline first before deleting...

Are you deleting the Bin reference (icon, etc), or are you using "Delete File" from the bin? I tend to stay away from Windows Explorer with video files.

Unfortunately, I don't think Edius makes use of the Windows Recycle Bin. Maybe for the wish list.

Hi pete

adding them to timeline still allows me to delete the files, upon deleting, the missing file icons appear

I will use the "Delete File" command from now on instead of Windows Explorer

however, the "Delete File" command fails to place files in recycle bin, which is handy in case I delete a file by mistake, this is why I would prefer to use Windows Explorer

Default Deleted files

The recycle bin doesn't grab large files and they (most video files) will be deleted. You can however increase the capacity of the recycle bin by doing the following;

To change the storage capacity of the Recycle Bin
On the desktop, right-click Recycle Bin, and then click Properties. You can set the recycle bin capacity for each drive you have on your computer. Usually the Recycle Bin capacity is set at 10% of the drive capacity. To change it move the slider to increase or decrease the amount of disk space that is reserved for storing deleted items.
Important

A deleted item that is larger than the storage capacity of the Recycle Bin will not be saved. It will be permanently deleted.
Notes

If you want to use different Recycle Bin settings for different drives, click Configure drives independently, and then click the appropriate drive tab to change the Recycle Bin settings for that drive.
If you want to use the same Recycle Bin settings for all drives, click Use one setting for all drives.

Hi 3chip

can you test the following

start a new project and copy/paste a small file like jpg to the project folder, then add it to the bin

now, right click the jpg in bin and select "Delete File" and not "Delete"

the file will be gone and it won't be in the recycle bin, no matter how large the recycle bin is set
