Default Edius 9 and Canon 705 H265 codec

I'm about to purchase a Canon XF705 and one of the Codecs it records to is H265.

Q. Will Edius 9 Workshop read this straight from the timeline with no rendering?

The file can be read very easily with Edius 9.5. Ingesting and reading it is one thing, actually getting realtime playback is another.
At this point, I would say a Z series motherboard and chip would give you the best chance of getting RT. The 7700k-9900k chips have H.265 decode/encode.
I would lean more to the 9900k, because it's the latest. Even more so, an overclocked 9900k.

Here is a 705 sample. It is 4:2:2 10bit 3840x2160 59.94p. Try it on your system to see how it works.

I had to go to proxy mode to get it to play on my ancient 4790K@4.6Ghz. I have H.264 encode/decode, but not H.265 encode/decode.
If you have a lot of fast cores, that may make the difference if you don't have a newer series system.

Tried the Clip in Edius and it struggles to play even at 1/4 Res
I have not overclocked i9 too far and have it at 4.3Ghz

Unless you are really stressed for memory H.265 would not be my choice for original video recordings.

My system struggles at 1/4 resolution too even in Resolve ( which may use my 1080Ti as decode ) at half it is not usable. Proxies will be a must for editing I think. Using an external recorder like the Ninja V would get better quality and easier editing too with ProRes. Have you looked at the Panasonic AG-CX350 ?

If you want continuous auto focus I think the Canon will be better but that may be the main advantage.

To me the main advantage is being able to record 10-bit 4:2:2 UHD 60p on internal SD cards.

So true. Can only do that for 30P on my GH5's

Canon is making me want to dump my Nikons! Nikon has lagged behind Canon video performance for quite some time now.
