Default Lets share our custom made effects and filters

i would lile to build up folder in the fx corner where all my often used filters and transitions are located. maybe we could share our often used effects and describe how they work?

these effects are in my folder:

fill left channel
fill right channel

its for simulating stereo
did ot with the audio pan effect

a deesser called "Birgit" because our newslady has a very sharp "ssss"
used spitfish

normal alpha transition preset to 12 frames
used for inserts ( they are animated to come but i have fade them manually because the lenght is different some times).

compressor limiter
for compressing our voice overs
i use the free vst plugin mda dynamics

then i have a filter combination for sport sequences
old movie ( only the vignette and the deinterlace is selected)
color correction with decrease saturration and increased contrast

i love the tv show top gear and their filtering.
i made it my own in photoshop and when you put it in the layer above your sport or car video it looks nearly the same. it is important to blend it with soft light blending mode.

i am looking for a method to produce a white flash 4 or 5 frames and put it as a preset in my folder. any ideas?

You can use the Strobe\Freeze and set the color frame to white.

Sharing presets indeed is a great idea but do keep in mind that many users have 3rd party filter tools in use, sharing that will be hard.

Of course with Matt's fine tutorials lots of users will be able to understand and work more with the Edius own filters, then sharing will be more rewarding.

For the sssss, I use the Low-Pass Filter. Play around with the quality and mainly the "cut off freq". I usually try to keep the quality as high as possible and just lower the "cut off freq" until the ssssss is gone.

Just an idea ... Some microphones emphasize "ssss" more than others so it may be worth trying out other microphones before aplying any ssss removal techniques ...

You don't need a transition for a white flash. Just put a white solid 4-5 frames long, over the clip on right side and fade it out. If you want to get fancy, you can also put a white solid on top of the END of the clip on the left and fade it in.

p.s. I'm almost certain that I have seen a transition for this in Edius but don't remember what it's called. I just use solids. I used to put a few of them in a row - a few frames apart - to get flashes, until I discovered the strobe.

Another way to get something similar to a flash but nicer (depending on what you're doing) is to duplicate the clip on top of itself and put an additive filter on the top one (this will blow the heck of the highlights out of the picture) and then just make opacity keyframes, up and down (from 0 - 100 - 0 - 100). The more you make and closer you make them, the faster the "flashes" will be. These "flashes" are nicer then just a solid white.

Ghost effect:

1. Copy a clip on top of itself.
2. Shift the copy a few frames to the left or right.
3. Lower the copy's opacity to something between 30 - 70 to get different effects.

I do a lot of weddings where I use stills at the end as a recap, or sometimes between wedding ceremony and reception. What I do is to use the 3D picture in picture, and at the begining, I use the crop, and cover the entire picture with a white border, move one or two frames, mostly 1 frame, drop another keyframe, then advance one more frame, and set the border to a desired size, and that can be, if I am not animating the still image, take the border away. If I am animating, I start my animation at the point where I set the small border, then I shuttle to the point where I want the image to stop moving, then I would resize, skew, and make any other adjustments, and the keyframe is automatically entered....I would then play to make sure it is what I want, and then I save it as a custom preset, so all I need to do is drop it on any still image, or series of stills, and I would apply a shutter sound effect to where the white is...It can be very effective for recaping .....If I want to do similar with an avi file, all I do is add one or two frames of white between the clips, depending on how fast I want the flash to appear...
