Default Export large number of short clips

I'm facing a potentially super tedious work: I need to individually export more than 100 cuts 3 to 4 secs each from a long sequence. The only process that I can think about is "marking in-out each subclip, setting name, putting it into the batch export" that repeated >100 times is "@!!@#". Any better idea from your experience?
Thanks

Might be able to automate it a bit more with MacroGenerator Pro.

If you are just reusing them in the EDIUS timeline use the long clip in the "PLAYER" window set the "IN / OUT" points for each section and drag each short clip over to the BIN in a new folder
Do this for each section, these can then be dragged down into the timeline and all the cuts will still be there, plus adjustments are stil able to be made to the length of each "CLIP"
If you are wanting to use the clips externally then there is no help I know of

Regards Barry

I can't think of much that would help. Two possible suggestions:
  • In EDIUS 9 you can assign a keyboard shortcut or button to add a clip to the batch exporter in one of 4 formats. So it would be mark in and out, press button, and on to the next clip. Then export the entire batch list at the end.
  • If the format you want is a render format you could mark and in and out point and then "render and add to timeline" or "shift-q". This will make up the bit you have marked as a file in the render format and add it to the timeline. When you have finished go to the render folder and copy everything there somewhere else. This would not include the sound though and the files would have long useless names.

@Bluetongue:
actually I need to export the clips, randomly rename and shuffle them before re-importing in Edius.

@BernH:
I downloaded MacroGenerator but the macro generation option is not available in the trial version so I can't test that function before buying.

@David:
short cut to batch explore sounds great! I'm on E8 pro: I'll test it as soon as back to my PC.

Thank you all for your tips.

I have MacroGenerator Pro. I have used it to do repetitive tasks before, often having to write my own custom macro. Essentially, it lets you automate many menu functions and hotkey presses. I have not had to do large batch exports, so I haven't completely explored the abilities there, but theoretically it should be able to do it.

I just had a quick look and the commands to do the process seem to be there, but it will require some trial and error writing and testing to string together the commands in the right way. Unfortunately, I don't have time right now to do this, as I am about to leave for work, but I will try to have a closer look this evening.

Don't know if you have Resolve but you could make your cuts in Resolve and then export as individual clips to Canopus HQX for editing in EDIUS. You can assign unique prefix or suffix to the clips but I do not know how to get full custom names. They can include the frame number so will be identified in sequence. Resolve feature is intended for round trip grading with other applications but should work for cutting in Resolve too. This works in the free version so you could try.

I seem to be having some trouble getting this to work with MacroGenerator Pro.

The custom export/add to batch step is kicking back an error. I will do some more digging to see if it is something I am doing wrong or if it is a bug. If it seems to be a bug I will report it to Walter, the creator of the software.

So after further testing, it looks like some of the export presets will work but others are producing an error about a missing idkey, so it looks like a software bug.

I will report to Walter when I gather some more technical info.

That said, it is capable of generating a batch export list based on your cut points, just maybe not in the file format you prefer until this bug gets ironed out.
