When using the external monitor in Mync do you have to be in RGB i.e. taking connection to VGA on Motherboard or will use the HDMI form the Black Magic card?

Mync does not use Blackmagic or anyone else's hardware in the way EDIUS does. You can make a second computer screen show a full screen preview of the clips. It is good enough to catalogue the clips and do a rough cut.
