Default Full screen preview and export time Edius 8 and 9

I have 2 laptops :

ASUS GL753VE

- i7 7700 HQ - 2.80GHz (up to 3.80 GHz) 6M Cache
- Intel HD 630
- GTX 1050Ti - 4GB - GDDR5
- 8 GB RAM
- SSD Samsung 850EVO 500 GB
- HDD Hitachi 1000GB 7200
- Win 10 Pro 64bits
- Edius 8.5.3.2808
- Edius 9.10.3086

and

ASUS N53SM

- i7 2670 QM - 2.20GHz (up to 3.10 GHz) 6M Cache
- Intel HD 3000
- GT 630M - 2GB - GDDR3
- 16 GB RAM
- SSD Samsung 850EVO 250GB
- HDD WD 750GB 7200
- Win 7 Ultimate 64bits
- Edius 8.5.3.2808
- Edius 9.10.3086

Both laptops are daily windows updated and drivers are updated to last version from manufacturer website . On both laptops Edius use Intel not NVidia.
As you can see the only minus on the ASUS GL753VE is that I have (for now) only 8 GB RAM.
I use both laptops with a monitor conected on hdmi. The hdmi monitor is for editing and the laptop monitor is for preview in full screen.

So, my problem is : When I work with Edius 8 or 9 on the newer ASUS GL753VE the video playback is not flawless. It have some interrupted playback, jerky, when I work with full screen preview on laptop monitor. In this case the preview it s jerky in the preview editing window too. If I disable the full screen preview the playback is more flawless. On the older ASUS N53SM never happen this. Works very good in the same conditions. What do you think can be the problem ?

I did also Export time comparition. I ve done 2 tests :

1 test : I ve exported 10 minutes of full hd m2ts interlaced 25fps edited footage to m2ts 1920x1080 interlaced 25fps (for bluray)
2 test : I ve exported 10 minutes of full hd m2ts interlaced 25fps edited footage to mpeg2 720x576 interlaced 25fps (for dvd)

Results:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edius 8 on ASUS GL753VE

HD EXPORT -------- 11 min 50 sec (!!!!!) - ( "use hardware encoder" was checked )
MPEG 2 EXPORT --- 6 min 5 sec

Edius 8 on ASUS N53SM

HD EXPORT -------- 7 min 30 sec
MPEG 2 EXPORT --- 3 min 35 sec
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edius 9 on ASUS GL753VE

HD EXPORT -------- 6 min 40 sec
MPEG 2 EXPORT --- 3 min 30 sec

Edius 9 on ASUS N53SM

HD EXPORT -------- 7 min 35 sec
MPEG 2 EXPORT --- 3 min 40 sec
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion for export :

I do not know what is the problem. As you can see Edius 8 on newer ASUS GL753VE does not use quick sync for m2ts export even if it s checked and it have an increased time for export m2ts. Can be a problem with drivers ? Can be a problem with Windows 10 ? What about the increased time for exporting in mpeg 2 ?

Of couse exporting time is a little low on ASUS N53SM because it have an older procesor! BUT ! I have expected more gain from ASUS GL753VE ! ASUS N53SM it s from 2012 and ASUS GL753VE it s from 2017. It s not a major difference in exporting time between 2 laptops, even one it s 5 years older !

The problem with the interupted, jerky, not flawless playback can be also a drivers problem ? Or it s because Windows 10 ? I ve tried another 2 drivers from asus website and there is no change.
On older ASUS N53SM everything is perfect with the preview and exporting time !
I d like to have flawless preview on both Edius 8 and 9, and of course good exporting time on Edius 8 on the new ASUS GL753VE.

Thank you for your help !

what is the screen resolution of the newer laptop?
what is the screen resolution of the older laptop?

how many cores in new laptop?
how many cores in old laptop?

quicksync is for mp4 export, I assume that by m2ts export you mean mpeg2 transport stream and if so, quicksync will not be used

the number of cores/threads in taskmanager determines how fast mpeg export is

example: a one hour HD timeline will take 6min to export to Blu-ray using mpeg2 HD codec with 16threads in taskmanager running at 100% with PC in my sig

" what is the screen resolution of the newer laptop?
what is the screen resolution of the older laptop? "

Both laptops 1920 x 1080
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

" how many cores in new laptop? how many cores in old laptop? "

Both laptops have 4 Cores and 8 Threads.

i7-7700HQ and i7-2670QM have 4 Cores and 8 Threads
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ve done 2 tests:

1. m2ts which is H.264/AVC Blu-ray - must use quick sync
2. mpeg 2 which is mpeg 2 pal for dvd - not use quick sync

" quicksync is for mp4 export, I assume that by m2ts export you mean mpeg2 transport stream and if so, quicksync will not be used "

.m2ts extesion is exported with H.264/AVC Blu-ray and it have:
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 23.0 Mb/s
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16:9
Frame rate : 25.000 FPS
Scan type : Interlaced

So, quick sync it will be used for my 1st test. In Edius 9 it is used and in Edius 8 it s not ? On the same PC ? How so ? So, why is so different export time between Edius 8 and 9 on the same PC ? I belive Edius 8 do not use quick sync. Maybe drivers ? Or what ?

What about the jerky preview on both Edius 8 and 9 on new laptop ?

I use mpeg2 HD for Blu-ray, great quality and a much faster workflow than any quicksync method using mp4 (= more money in less time = more time for beer)

I don't have a PC with quicksync in order to test your scenario

quicksync can be a hit and miss in EDIUS from what I have read, but I have no prove

This is brought about by the difference in the screen update frequency and the video frame rate
Most computers update the screen at either 60Hz or 70 - 75Hz, but your video is at a guess 25fps, so you will see dropped frames on the Edius monitor, Perhaps check the screen update frequency of both laptops

This is one reason to use an output card like BM or GV and an external monitor

Same can occur if you use the HDMI output from the Graphics card to a TV for monitoring
I am guessing the final to DVD / mp4 etc goes not display this when shown on a TV

Regards Barry

Both monitors have same screen update frequency.

My problem is on New ASUS that have Windows 10.

On the old ASUS with Windows 7 it s ok.
