No. It will not. It accepts .scc of .mcc only. These are closed captioning formats for use in ntsc closed captioning. .stl is a subtitle format.

NTSC = closed captioned, PAL = teletext. They are not the same thing.

In Australia we use STL files that are merged with the hd video file clip for broadcast.

Yes, that is the teletext workflow, not closed captioning.

I may be wrong, but I believe the .stl file is delivered as a sidecar file that is merged on the playback server, not embedded in the file as an ancillary data stream like closed captioning is.

In that case, there is no need for Edius to handle the file.

Do your edit, export as a master or a lower bitrate guide, and use the master/guide to drive the captioning/subtitling in Subtitle Edit. It supports a huge number of formats.

If you're interested in an automatic captioning tool, Maestra can caption and subtitle videos to foreign languages automatically.

Jason, Do you have a workflow with Maestra and EDIUS that you can share? Where and how in EDIUS does the Maestra generated captioning info get inserted?
Thanks

Do you work for these people of something? You have been bombing any thread that mentions captions or subtitles going back several years.

These automated services are usually not accurate enough for broadcast because they often don't pick up on accents or localized slang terms very well.

Captions require an .scc file for Edius to use. if this thing can give an .scc that is what you would need, but note my previus comment. Any of these automated services I have tried were never accurate enough, and an .scc file is not a human readable file if you were trying to edit it after the fact. You would need to open it in something like subtitle edit or mac caption to edit and re-export, so why not work there to begin with.
