Yes I look forward to 8.2 as my Sony PXW-FS7 camera records XAVC SLog3 and although I have saved a YUV curve preset in Edius it doesn't seem to work for all lighting levels, so it will be great to just apply the correct LUT.

The motion tracker will also be very useful to me in Mask as I can then get the mask to follow points round a person.

I'm sure that lut will not work on all exposure level either :-) you will always need to mess with it.

Like your YUV curve preset, mLUT's should never be considered a solution, only a beginning.
Love my FS7.

I would not expect it to be capable of tracking each shape around and object. You need something very sophisticated to do that. After Effects and Mocha, which have been around for ages, are the best things I have tried and they don't manage this sort of thing too well.

I would expect the tracker to be able to get a mask to follow a object but not alter the shape to match it as well.

If it can do this it will be extremely popular.

As regards LUTS, I just bought a Sony A7SII, mainly for astro timelapse, buy will no doubt also take advantage of its formidable low light 4K video capabilities as well. My initial impression of the whole LUT thing is that, they are highly overrated. The camera will do SLOG2, & SLOG3. After watching one of David's- always excellent- tutorials where he very quickly, used just the YUV and 3 way color corrector on a VLOG clip and produced a result which I felt looked clearly superior to the LUT he compared it to, I came away with the opinion that LUTS were clearly not the panacea that I had previously assumed and that I could probably do just as well or better much of the time. Obviously, they could be a useful time saving shortcut, perhaps. But, from other videos I've watched showing the before and after of several LUTS, many of them just don't look that good to me.

From those of you guys who are much more experienced in that regard, does what I'm saying make sense, or have I missed something?

While it is true in my tutorial and with my shots I think I got a better result just using the YUV curve and colour correction, I have seen lots of other examples where the LUT brings our some areas which I cannot do so easily with EDIUS. I have seen some shots where the skin tones look better using a LUT than how I can do it with just EDIUS filters.

The LUT I used was free from the Panasonic website and I have been suggested others which are better. I would generally add a LUT, then fiddle a bit more.

I have also meant customers whose entire job was to make a LUT using a program when in the field filming and then pass that on to the editor to use; the editor does not need to do any grading or even know how to do it and can just use the other guys settings.

So I think it is good that we will be able to use LUTS in EDIUS and am looking forward to playing with them.
