next time, edit them in a HD resolution that matches the source and apply optical flow to iron out the mismatch in frame rate

How do I apply an optical flow? For that matter - what is an optical flow?

select clip and press Alt+E and set interpolation to optical flow, this kicks in even without a speed change if source frame rate is different from project setting, try it on an NTSC clip in a Pal project

you can also get great slow motion by applying optical flow to the speed change

however, do not set optical flow as default, leave it on frame blending
