Default New BMD Video Desktop Driver 10.4

BMD did a major Step with this new Driver.
Additions:

1. New graphical Program Desktop Video Utility replaces Configuration Dialog
2. HFR2 support on Decklink 4K Extreme
for HDMI (2160p60) 2.0 ?
for SDI 2 x 6G

It took a long time but this is great news that it could be achieved without HW
changes.

But even of the good news there's a bug on HDMI out for 2160p50 the Output Image is not OK with my PGM's.

I seriously don't understand why anyone would trust what they print. Even after changing specs, they still say some things are future implementations, even on something that's now long in the tooth for video post.

They added the the UHD 50 & 60P output at the same time as updating the Ultrastudio 4K to output these frame rates. The Ultrastudio has said it would do these frame rates all along but never did.

I have an UltraStudio and can say that it now does these frames rates so I am guessing the Extreme 4K will as well. They worked in Avid and Premiere but not in EDIUS. EDIUS' support is mainly written by Grass Valley and they only support V9 drivers, which means even if you put V10 drivers on EDIUS says the preview device does not support the resolution.

I don't actually have a UHD TV capable of 50P yet, so my basis for saying it works is that the screen on the UltraStudio has an output if you set this resolution in Premiere or Avid.

I've tried a number of BM interfaces on PC and Mac, and in a few apps. I can honestly say that, in modern times, they've been the most unpleasant of experiences.

The only card I don't have issues with, is the Mini monitor. But it's not exactly an all singing all dancing beasty.

My advice to any Edius user, is one of potential compromise. If you can find a GV card that matches your workflow, then this is by far the best option. Even if it means buying a second hand unit.

Even for 4K/UHD etc. I would personally compromise and edit/play out at HD on a GV card for viewing externaly, then switch the project back to 4K/UHD for the final render/master. This is not perfect, for a number of reasons, such as not being able to monitor 1:1 for dead pixels etc. But it does at least give a solid uninterrupted workflow, with all the other advantages of using a GV interface.

I don't personally use high frame rates, 50/60P etc. So this may be a harder workaround, but maybe not impossible with the right GV card.

My 10.4 install just came up with error on two HP units. On the xw8600 with the HDBX1000 hardware it reverted to 10.3.7, on the HP z800 it also said error and reverted to nothing at all installed and now 10.3.7 won't go on with the same unhelpful message so that is sitting at 10.3.4. BMD support have not yet answered my issue.
