Default HD Spark and Blackmagic Mini Monitor together?

I have an older workstation running Windows Ultimate 64bit that hosts not only Edius 6.02 but also Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 and Avid MC 8.3. I use two different video cards, an HDSpark to monitor output for Edius and a Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor to monitor output for both Premiere and Avid MC.

What I noticed since I installed Blackmagic's video card lately is that from that point on, every time I run a project in Edius, playback is somewhat jerky in both audio and video.

I tried switching the order of the cards on the motherboard (placing Blackmagic on PCI-Xpress port 1 and HD Spark on PCI-Xpress port 2 and vice versa) with no luck. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers on both but that didn't work either.

Then I tried to completely remove the HDSpark and, to my surprise, Edius worked fine - no jerky playback. What's weird is that Blackmagic's card is not affected in any way by the presence of the HD Spark, playback in both Premiere and MC is smooth and trouble-free. Also, playback with the HDSpark was smooth before the Blackmagic card was installed (with both Edius version 6.02 and 7)

Any ideas on why this happens? Anyone with another video card also installed in one system that might have a similar problem? I can think of a number of reasons (CPU speed - resources - RAM amount - HDD speed) but if someone here has a more accurate view of the issue, I'd like to hear it. Maybe it's just that one system can't host two cards.

Now I could install Edius 7 Pro that also supports output with a Blackmagic card and completely remove the HD Spark but unfortunately I already used the trial version for 30 days and buying it is not an option at the moment.

The workstation's specs are:
- Core 2 Quad CPU at 3 GHz
- 8 GBs of RAM
- ASUS P5K64 WS motherboard
- 240 GB HDD system disk (7200 rpm)
- 2x 500 GB HDD (7200 rpm - not RAID)
- 1TB HDD (7200 rpm)
- Nvidia GeForce 460 graphics card / 1 GB RAM

Thanks a lot in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the BM mini monitor for EDIUS output, so you could remove the HD Spark (end of life product) permanently

Edius 6 wasn't fully compatible with BM products as 3rd party hardware. The easiest thing to do is to do the 'Jump'
upgrade, pull the HD Spark, and use the Mini Monitor for both Edius and Adobe products.

he mentioned that he also has EDIUS7, so it should work, but not in 6.02

His trial has expired and he can't upgrade right now. It's $299 now or $499 later.

Ha ha ha... Ok, guys, so what you're actually telling me is that these two cards don't work together and that the only way is to go for Edius 7, right? Couldn't it just be the tech specs? Any idea on what could cause this jerky playback?

what Blackmagic driver do you have installed? current version is 10.4

be sure to uninstall the old one first and reboot

also, you could try EDIUS 6.08 (free) which has a newer Spark driver

I have tried the Blackmagic card with Edius 7 and it works like a charm. But as I said, buying Edius now is not an option. My question is whether there is something I can do to make the HDSpark card work properly with the installed version of Edius (6.02).Any idea on that?

update to 6.08 (it is free for registered users and greatly improved)

is there something you don't like about 6.08?

also, what is your BM driver version?

Ok, now I got it, you mean that version 6.08 works with the Blackmagic card. I'll certainly look into it if upgrade is free. My driver version is 10.3.2.0 but I am unwilling to go to the newest version because it caused stability issues with Premiere Pro CC 2014.1. Will the 10.3.2.0 driver work?
