It is a small world. I was just at KTTV about 6 weeks ago training people on EDIUS.

Regarding "Take My Hand", it's a real tour de force, Alan. A good positive story very well told. You obviously had experienced, sensitive actors who under your direction seemed totally natural. Goodness knows how many people out there need this kind of help. I shed a few tears myself, since the video spoke to me personally. My own precious daughter passed away after a serious illness 3 years ago. Friends are super important at times likes these. A great testimony of your multi-skilled creative abilities, Alan. Glad you gave EDIUS a credit.

Thanks for the kind words, Rick. I'm so sorry for your loss, but perhaps this video brings some hope to people who endure this experience. I'm not a proponent of "message" films, but I thought this script was unique in bringing out a needed note. And the actors were absolutely committed.

And Pat - you were out here 6 weeks ago and didn't call? Naughty guy!

My best to you both - and thanks for watching and your comments.

Alan

Figured I'd post something "typical" of what I whip up in 100% Edius. So here's a budget "story piece" from an event last year. A few key Edius utilized features include:

- Stabilizer to take off micro-shake off a few shots (so fast)
- Slow motion optical-flow on a couple of shots
- VST integration : ReaComp / EQ + master sequence w/ W1 Limiter
- Fast-masked colour grades in places, often tracked.

https://vimeo.com/363801398/386891ffae

Big part of low-budget briefs these days seems to be "no big cameras"; and requirements to deal with "whatever-weather" so I often bust out the Sony RX10iii at 100fps (bit of a secret weapon IMHO). Also shot some in-public stuff on the Osmo Pocket (de-sharpened). I grade "in-camera" with custom picture profiles (no SLOG3) and only apply the odd tweak in Edius. A few cut-away's are archive from my Sony FS5 and you can tell the difference but it matches quite well. The FS5 is great on a tripod, but once you are on a gimbal doing run & gun in a rain forest you just need to lock-focus and get shots in a take or two.

Bulk of video was shot in 4 hours, with no script or prepared questions (just honest chats). Editing took 2 x days with grading / mix done during the edit. A bunch of archive from 5 other similar videos was used and it's just one big Edius project with tons of sequences I can pluck from. We did one round of changes. (added a VO at end to give a bit more context)

I feel the spirit of this thread is "100%-in-Edius" and for me that's my fast turnaround content. That is where a lot of the market is heading - and for me - it is what Edius does best!

My latest film is to promote a new gin product distilled in Transylvania, Romania. It was filmed in a small cocktail bar in Bucharest. I worked alone and it took 4 hours to shoot everything. I did a wide shot first, and after the actors had departed I did the close-ups of the cocktail mixing.

I used my in-body stabilized Lumix GH5 with a 12-35mm OIS zoom lens. The location interior was lit with flooded red-heads - which were covered by scrims to diffuse the light and also daylight-blue dichroic filters to match the light coming through a window. I also used a small Sokani X21 Pro LED color-balanced light on the camera to lift the foreground subject.

The video was shot UHD 38402160 50p CineLikeD and then the appropriate PCC applied within EDIUS. Quite a few shots were resized with Layouter before exporting at 1920x1080 25p for YouTube and Vimeo with CC subtitles in German, Hungarian and Romanian. Graphics were done in the basic QuickTitler.

You can view the video here.

Excellent work Rick. Great camera work and editing. The actors audio may have had a bit of an echo, but overall a terrific piece.
