So I'm about to edit up some raw 16MM negative that was just shot in the last month. I'm usually dealing with positive film or negative film that was prepped by someone else, but this is my first time tackling raw color negs myself.
What's the easiest way to remove the orange mask from a raw neg scan? |

I'd test a frame with Davinci Resolve - it's free and has Cintel negative and color inversion luts - maybe Edius has such a thing but I doubt it.
Post a frame on here I can test it now if you like Paul :-)

Well I can't seem to do much with this - it's super low resolution, soft and appears to contain no color information at all - as well as being very very under exposed - I've looked at it in DaVinci Resolve, Light Room and Photoshop - and I'm unable to produce anything meaningful - sorry to say.
Paul :-)

This is the best I was able to do with your frame in 5 minutes:
![]() Basically: inverted, stretched the range 128...168 to 0...255, boosted chroma... That was done in the image editor. And this is in EDIUS: ![]()

here's a guide for still negs
https://photo.stackexchange.com/ques...them-with-a-ds Your still appears to be under exposed and have no or very minute color information, it's such a low quality scan you are hard pushed to realise anything useable from it. Paul :-)

I did this in Edius, and whilst the color channels are open, the result appears BW

After playing with it some more, I got some color but not much.
![]() Assuming the trees are green (I have some green in there) then the locomotive appears to be red (have some red in there) But what is missing is blue sky, but if it was shot on a cloudy day it should be gray (I have gray sky). ![]() The negative appears to be compressed and have some logarithmic curves that will be difficult to reproduce without a reference target to guide us (a grayscale test target would work nice). ![]() I am not sure, but I would not be surprised if there are transfer LUT files you can get somewhere: ie. xyzNEG->BT709. But those would certainly be film specific.

Looks like the OP's gone on holiday, don't you just love it when people ask for help and never respond.
Bad manners. Paul :-)

The OP has only two posts, so he still needs moderator approval, so he may have replied but his reply is awaiting approval?
