Default Creating Smooth Slow Motion by Shooting with a High Shutter Speed

I am trying to import video shot on a shutter speed of 1/3000 on a Sony DVCAM. Whenever I imported it into Edius and slowed down the clip the shutter speed still seemed to be the default 1/60. Is there a way to import high shutter speed video to get smooth slow motion video.

I think you are confusing shutter speed with frame rate.

AFAIK Sony DVCAM has only a frame rate of 50i (PAL) and 60i (NTSC), or progressive.

What you need is a camera that can record at a higher frame rate.

A fast shutter speed will give you a sharper still frame, not necessarily smoother slomo. In fact fast shutter speeds can give the sort of effect that you see in film cameras where panning shots strobe and vehicle wheels appear to turn backwards.

Hi Cecilia.

Are you talking about frame rate? and not shutter seed. As it would normally be high frame rates that give you proper smooth slow motion. Although shutter speed does have a certain relationship between the light exposure and frame rate, it's not really what would give you slow motion.

Cheers.

Dave.

Or more specifically, less motion blur in things moving in the frame. It would have no effect on stationary items (assuming the camcorder is not moving). A fast shutter may tend to increase the strobe-look of slow motion video that otherwise might be masked a bit by the motion blur.

Exactly, there is a confusion of terms that are completely different "between shutter speed and frame rate recording" as explained John Hooper...

And sorry you have not tried "Smooth Slow Recording" function that brings the camcorders Sony HDV/DVCAM: FX1000, Z5, Z7 and other... this function more effective than doing the Shutter Speed???
