Default ADVC-300 deliver no audio in Picture Controller 300 software

Hi,

I am a new user of the ADVC-300 converter. I did waste a lot of time yesterday trying to figure why I don't have any audio when I visualize the video via Picture Controller 300 software installed on my windows 7 PC.

The source is NTSC VHS tape...

I got the picture, but no audio. I did try couple of things but now I run off of any ideas about this troubleshooting. I begin to suspect that something may be wrong with the 6 pins DV PC bus...but I am not a expert.

My set-up is:

TV (JVC AV-20ME) analog audio/composite video ► VHS (Samsung SV-300W) S-VIDEO out ► Front-ADVC-300 - Front DV (4 pins) ► DV (6 pins) PC.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Remy

You have described an analog video signal path, but not mentioned the audio.

This may notbe your issue but just in case, an s-video conenction does not carry audio. You need to connct tha audio output of the VCR to the video input of the ADVC to receive audio in the IEEE1394 output.

If my memory is good I tried (despite the fact that that I didn't know that S-video don't carry audio; thanks) in desperation with analog audio from the VCR to the ADVC with and without the S-VIDEO. But it is worthy to double check tomorrow at work...

Thanks

Not all preview decodes audio, to avoid echo effect if the source plays audio.

Take a step back and go for a simpler test.

Capture the input, then play the captured file back.

If the captured file has no audio (and you're not muted), then there's a problem in your audio capture path.

Picture Controller (the software the OP says he is using) does have audio preview.

Couldn't remember if it does(n't) :)

If the TV audio output is not Line Level, but rather Variable Out (which most are), then the level may be to low for the VCR and/or ADVC.

For troubleshooting purposes I'd try playing a pre-recorded tape from the VHS deck and see if you get audio there.
