Default Edius 6.08 and 4k

Hello, I am happily working with 6.08 which does everything I want - or it did, I now have a camera now that shoots 4k and Edius doesn't recognise the files. I saw that there's an HDX codec for 4k which I have downloaded and tried to install, but I get 'Setup failed - an old version of Edius/Aurora Craft has been detected...'

Do I need an updated version of Edius or can I get 6.08 to work with 4k?

Apologies for asking a question that was probably answered many times years ago, I'm just a little late to the 4k world.

Thank you.

If you are trying to install the Grass Valley HQ codec pack then you don't do that if you have EDIUS installed. EDIUS 6 will read some files but a lot of new files types which were not around when EDIUS 6 was written may not load.
In what format are the files - MP4? Mov? XAVC etc? If it is a format EDIUS 6 does not support you have to either convert it with something else or upgrade EDIUS.
You can get an EDIUS jump upgrade for 287.
EDIUS 6 is 32 bit which means it will have a limit on how much memory it can use, which may also be a problem using big 4K file, EDIUS 9 is 64 bit.
The other question is how good it your computer? 4K is harder work that HD so needs a better computer. It is a good idea to put the specification of your machine in your signature so we can advise you a bit better.

Hello David, thanks for your reply.

The 4k video was shot on a Sony RX100 v camera, and is XAVC S format. I have also tried importing other 4k files from a DJI Mavic Air drone (MP4).

Neither format is recognised.

Also I don't have any project templates above 1920 x 1080 size, where tutorials etc I have watched show templates at greater sizes, eg 4k.

My system I'm sure would not be good enough for editing three 4k tracks but it copes fine in real time with three or four HD tracks. I would hope it would cope okay with a single 4k track.

Intel Core i7, 930@2.8GHz
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
Not sure what else would be relevant.

Please can you let me know what the Jump upgrade will take me to. Thanks for your help.

I would think that if you upgraded, those clips would work fine. You can DL a small clip of each one, and we can test and be sure.
