Default Problem with Go Pro Clips Not Working in Edius 8 Workgroup

I have a problem with Go Pro clips not working in Edius 8 Workgroup on Win 8.1 with latest Nvidia Driver (updated this after previous driver also had problem) on MacBook Pro Retina 15" with 650M graphics card.

The clips flash green and stutter. They are 2.7K 50p files. I placed them in a 1080 50p timeline (so I could use layouter to place/zoom as required).

To check the clips were not corrupted, I tested the clips in GoPro Studio and also in FCPX on OSX and they work fine. I tested using GV Browser and by importing to bin from in edius (transfer to project folder). Both yielded the same problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any support/advice.

You could try converting to HQ from the bin as a stop gap and test

Hi, thanks. I have thought of that and will try tomorrow.

Mysteriously, the clips play fine when I run Edius on OSX under parallels. The play smoothly without any stutter or green flickering. Bizarre. I am guessing at some graphics driver issue. I have Edius 7 installed on another machine and will check them on that when I am able to.

It seems a number of clips won't play in Edius Workgroup8 where they are not optimised for Xeon playback but work fine on i7 CPU PC's. I have Open Hardware monitor in the system tray and it shows hardly any CPU activity whilst playing back material like GoPro MP4 (in my case 1920 by 1080 25p) yet it stutters badly and the cursor isn't responsive, neither is play/stop with the space bar, and scrubbing in the player is pretty impossible. It used to be the observed situation that it always ran the CPU's up to full capacity on difficult clips but that seems to be no longer the case. All 4 of my systems are like that but the i7 950 laptop has Edius 7.5 on there and GoPro is fine on that. Also Multicam is in the same boat, clearly there is a coding error as if the CPU is using 9% to play back a piece of HDV footage and I simply switch to multicam the CPU goes to 98% and the audio stutters, yet previous versions of Edius 5/6 worked just fine in multicam.

The real embarassment comes with the comparison to Premiere Pro CC2014 on the same hardware, which with a GTX980Ti GPU in my system 4 finds no difficulty in playing the same GoPro material and with 4 cameras of HDV footage in Multicam doesn't stutter on the sound. Alright if we want to be fussy it lowers the resolution of the clips in multicam but it is content and sound that we are looking/listening for, and as a multicam editor it works whereas Edius WG8 on a Xeon system currently doesn't.

Whilst Edius WG8 now has the drop frames feature (probably intended for a lesser grade laptop to do multicam) the flicker it causes on the monitor will kick off a migraine with me so I cannot use it like that.

Currently EWG8 is in performance terms in the Xeon hardware environment is a retrograde step and all rather disappointing, and what I need to know is when the suggested Xeon optimisation is going to happen.
