Default Error Message - permission needed?

Using Pro-Coder Express with Edius 4.6 for this project. Previously all Edius 4 DVDs have been 4:3 because they were shot in 4:3. Now shooting and editing in 16:9.

Followed the usual process. Create DVD in NTSC - VOB directly to DVD - constant bitrate. Advanced settings - NTSC 720x480 - closed GOP (don't know what this means). I changed the aspect rate to 16:9 and bitrate is 9100.

I then get the error message: "ProCoder failed to create the output file. Please make sure you have permission to create file".

What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

Sounds like either your output path is invalid (too long?), or the account it's running in doesn't have permission to access it (Network path? Restricted filepath?).

It could also mean your system/temp drive is out of space.

Also, I would lower the bitrate a tad. Some older players have issues with max bitrate and combined with varying media readability, too high a bitrate can cause playback issues whereas too low a bitrate can cause quality issues.

8 Mbps is more than enough in the majority of cases.

Could this problem have something to do with the registration or dongle key? Edius 4 works fine, but could this effect this request? Years ago Edius Support recommended that I transfer the registration from the key to the computer. I just remembered that.

If it was a dongle/activation problem, EDIUS wouldn't launch at all.

It's possible that some other software packages like antivirus or Nero Suite may interfere with the encoding. Since this is ProCoder Express for EDIUS, you may want to ask in the EDIUS forum and see if someone there remembers any conflicts or solution.

Thanks Brandon. Glad to know it's not a dongle issue! No one on the Edius Forum seemed to have a clue about this particular error message.... however my local computer guy said it's likely an issue with Windows and he can probably correct it. I haven't brought the computer in yet.
