Why double the work? just right click on that audio track and make it stereo and drag your stereo file up then you just have one track to mess with.

Thanks for the tip Khoi, but I have a follow up question:

I started with a mono only timeline. I brought in a clip that has different audio on each track, I dealth with the audio separately and all is well in the mono environment. I then brought in a finished stereo HQ file. The audio came in as two tracks of the same audio. I did the right-click and changed the track to stereo and then both of the audio tracks were represented on track 1. Easy to edit now. Great, but the levels were now over modulated.

If I go back to when the HQ file was first brought in and had two mono tracks, the levels would only be correct if I delete one of those mono tracks. This would make the clip equal to everything else in the project having only one track of audio.

So, if I take one track away from the stereo clip, will it sound the same as if I left both in place? I trust this is fine with my DAW, but I have never trusted audio much with Edius since it has never had much attention.

Thanks.

If you delete one track then it should be the same as before, or leave the stereo track the way it is and adjust the level on it. What I don't understand is what do you mean by brought in a finish stereo HQ file? Did you output the audio on timeline and work on it on another program then brought it back to Edius to replace all of the original audio?

I was playing around with the mixer and found that if I moved the pan to center, the HQ clip which was converted to stereo has proper levels. This only works when the mixer channel is set to "clip"

So within a mono only timeline, you can bring in a stereo clip, combine the tracks to have stereo on one track and if you pan to center the levels will be correct.

Now, this would be great if we could have a stereo track or two within a mono timeline. For example: A1 and A2 would be mono (A1 panned to the left and A2 panned to the right) then A3 and A4 be stereo (panned to the center) for anything you need to bring in the project that is stereo.

Is this possible and I don't know how to do it? I just see the little a12 indicator that changes when you right-click and choose to have stereo on or off.

About the HQ clip - Yes, I had some interviews that I shot in 1080p that were already processed and finished. I added them to a 720p project of a concert.

Another alternative is to leave the tracks Stereo and use the PanPot & Balance filter to mute L/R and pan the remaining R/L to center.
